take your goal weight an multiply it by 11 and that is how many calories a day you should intake. try walking, but you have to walk fast enough for it to be cardio healthy(helps burn fat)I walk 2 miles in right under 30 min or try running, but it is a combo of eating healthy and exercise, you can do it!! good luck

Walk for 2 miles everyday (at least 5 days a week) and pick up the pace on that...walk as fast as you can.
Then focus on Crunches. I would suggest about 100 a day at least. If you can do more, great!
You also need to be drinking water like it's going out of style. You'll pee every 5 minutes and trust me, you want that! You can drop the first 5 lbs of water weight in that first week guarenteed!
Also, check out the portion sizes you're eating. Cut down and eat less. Don't eat anything past 5:30 and no snacking. If you can, do the walking on your lunch. It will speed up your metabolism and burn the food off easier. The earlier the better with cardio.
Good luck! If you have any questions or want more help, send me an email! kribble2002@yahoo.com

Why has it become so important for you to lose 20 lbs in 5 weeks? Is it that you need to feel in control of something? Or are you dieting for a special event? You will feel much better about yourself if you choose an achievable, realistic goal (2lbs week is about right). This rate of weight loss would be too rapid. You would be losing water, muscle and important vitamins and minerals.

GI diets are good because they promote healthy eating and you eat from all of the major food groups. Basically you cut down on sugar and processed carbs, and eat lots of fruit, veg and a limited amount of wholewheat/ wholegrain foods. Plus lots of exercise.

It worries me that you are 155 pounds and say you want to lose 'lots' of weight but will start with 20 pounds. Given your height, I wouldn't have said that losing much more than 20 pounds would be healthy anyway. I'm three inches shorter than you, weigh 130 pounds and wear size 8-10 clothes. The difference, possibly, is that I'm very fit so a lot of my weight is muscle. Muscle weighs heavy but looks good because all the 'saggy' bits become toned and tight hence the loss of dress size rather than scale weight. Honestly, you ought to aim for sensible eating and good exercise to look good, rather than dieting to look thin. Being slim for life isn't about 'dieting' it's about changing your whole way of life. Aim for optimum health and fitness and your body weight will adjust accordingly. If you are fit, you won't only look slim but your skin will be better, your hair will be glossier, you will be healther etc... Don't look at this as a short term diet but as a way of changing your life for ever.

okay - it might not knock off a total of 20 pounds but you can drop several dress sizes

First, assure you are in good health to take on this challenge (aka, check with your doctor)

Second, to lose 20 pounds in 5 weeks you will need to lose 4 pounds per week - that's a lot and that is why I can suggest 10-15 pounds and definitely inches

Third, understand that losing weight is math. To lose 2 pounds per week you will need to decrease your food intake by 500 kcal per day and increase your exercise output by 500 kcal per day.

Fourth, weigh yourself in the beginning and also take measurements of your waist, hip, and thighs - b/c if the scale doesn't change - you can still see results

So here's the generic advice (since I don't know how active you are and what you eat)

1. for your food intake - reduce it by 30%. If you normally eat 1 cup of cereal - eat between 2/3 and 3/4 cup.

2. please be aware of your intake and do not compensate by eating more at other meals, etc

3. basics of dieting include (1) assuring you have protein at each meal (to help you feel full) and (2) eat lots of veggies (like carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, etc, note: not corn, potatoes, peas etc); reason: non-starchy vegetables are very low in calories but due to their fiber/water content can give you a feeling of fullness

4. exercise every day for a total of 60 minutes - you can break this up into smaller intervals if you like, but if you really want to lose - go biking, running, attend aerobic classes, swimming, EVERY day

5. twice per week integrate 30 minutes of weight training - go with the light weights and higher repititions (you can pick up weights and a video at target) I really like the "Firm" workouts - they are off the hook b/c the weight has been dropping off my body.

Good luck!

Cut your head off lol - Firstly stop worrying about losing weight. Start thinking about healthy eating (very different). Diets do not work. Retraining your eating habits does. Eat a good breakfast (most important meal of the day), light snack lunch, small evening meal (not after 6 p.m) drink lots of water and don't torture yourself about food - you don't need much a day to survive. Think about how you want to be and not how you do not want to be. Start changing lifestyle, take a 10 min walk each day (not to the chip shop) Take control and good luck

Keep track of your calorie intake - you should try to stick around 1200-1500 calories only per day (for a woman). Plus you must watch your fat intake also. Walking 5-7 miles a day and watching your fat and calorie intake you should be able to lose 20 pounds in less than 5 weeks. Good Luck

Try the South Beach Diet and excercise. You'll lose anywhere from 8-13 lbs in the 1st 2 weeks. You have to do the diet exactly as it says or it wont work. The main thing is NO SUGAR.

cut out ALL sugar from your diet. And additives, preservatives and artificial colours.
Eat small meals 200-300cals each 5-6 times a day.
go for a fast walk every day that lasts 1 hour.
That should do it.
Drink as much water as you can handle.
