Profiling is when you single out one race, gender, religion,or any other group or stereotype and pull them over, detain, search, arrest or any other number of things without probable cause.
If a victim describes the offender as a black male wearing a red shirt and blue shorts and the police find a black male wearing a red shirt and blue shorts in the area, it is not profiling it is good police work.
If they describe the offender as above and the police locate a white male wearing the same clothes and detain him yes it would be profiling, but I have never seen that happen. Through good police work, they may have uncovered more leads. Police may have spoken to the victim and got the first description. Then while searching the area spoke to people outside who saw the person the victim described talk to the white male wearing the same clothes. So the police detain him to find out if he is involved or if he knows the offender.
Im not saying that profiling does not exist. Police Officers are people too and are sbuject to the same hate for others as civilians are. However it is just as raciest to accuse a police officer for doing his job of racial profiling to avoid a ticket or an arrest or what ever you are trying to get out of. It has become a trump card. I have been pulling cars over now for the last 10 years. As the years pass, I have been accused more and more of profiling. If you are speeding you are speeding it does not matter what race, gender, religion, etc you are. You are a speeder, and yes I do profile speeders.
It also depends on demographics. I work as a police officer in South Texas. 75% of the people I pull over are Hispanic. Does that make me a profiler. No! It just means that 75% of the people where I live are Hispanic.
Well thats my stand on profiling. Now some questions for you. When reading your question I noticed that you are kinda racial yourself.
1. Balck guy robs a store at gunpoint.
2. Middle Eastern man hijaks a plane.
3. Asian woman cause a 20 car pile up.
Thats about as raciest as it gets.

It all depends if you are looking for a person of a certain race. If somebody robs a bank and the police were told by a witness it was a white male in a truck and the police pull over a black man in a corvette then yes it is a case for racial profiling. Just because there is a 20 car pile up the police won't go looking for Asians.

It is not racial profiling when a man walks out of a Fire Station when it is closed and especially if there was a report of burglary and a police man regardless of race pulls up and see two kids standing outside and the door open then out walks a man. That is not profiling. The {Police Officer) acted within the guild lines of making sure who the person was and making sure he was safe also. You just do not take a person word that they are a fireman. I guess the police officer should have said "Ok buddy" and went on without checking out the truth. Some people on here with comments are very racist. I never bring race into a issue even if it could be used. We are americans and most of us were born here and raised here and whatever happened with our ancestors has no bearing on how we treat each other. An American is an America if they are here legally and have the correct documents regardless where they were from. Were Americans and no other title should be added. I know the Government wants people to state on documents what their nationality is but that shouldn't be a concern. I served with people of various nationalities in the Army and we were all OD GREEN no race card was pulled or suggested. Who cares what nationality a person is if they are an American.

Good Police work. Why would you question a white man when a store was robbed by a black man or why would you put an old Asian man through extra security checks at the airport when arab men are known terrorists.

ok,it kinda comes all the way down to this.we've were given to easily quiet down and by no skill be so emotional about all this.If a Black guy robs the monetary company and receives away in a pink Civic and also you're a Black guy driving a pink Civic, guy do not freak out in case you get stopped.Sorry in the experience that your Blackness makes you a purpose.Police are only attempting to capture a monetary company robber.it really is all.i have had White acquaintances stopped an identical way.No biggie. Now in all equity, there looks some police officials that joined the stress cuz they prefer to conquer human beings up and they must be enable flow, too.Peace and love and want and exhilaration, human beings.BK

I think you're missing the point a little. If a witness identified a black man, or a white man, or whatever, then you're not profiling, you're going off of known information. Profiling is when you single out a single racial or ethnic group based on generalizations, rather than evidence specific to that case.

My friend has massive speakers in the trunk of his car. He drove past a Chicago cop blaring rap music. He was pulled over and searched. My friend was pissed and started talking about the Klan is now the police and that police are the real terrorists. He was saying we need to do something about the profiling of black people. I told him this. We have to clean up our own house first. I promised that I would fight the police with him if we were not as responsible for crime as we are. If the cops keep messing with us even if we no longer murder the most, steal the most, and sell drugs the most, I will lay my life down to fight the "racist" cops, but until then, let it go.

Racial profiling is not used when you have a description. It is useded when you are patrolling. You see a guy and sterotype him, then boom hes now a criminal. But you know what is truly funny, is when we take most things in the world and use statistics. Well statistically profiling works....But your a bleeding heart that has never seen the other side.

racail profiling is what happens when police officers are more apt to pull over blacks or hispanics. Blacks and hispanics (or anyother race) should not be singled out because of thier race. This is what people have the complaint with. OBviously.. if you have a description of a suspect than you look twrds people who fit a profile. People being harrased because they are a certain race is not right!!!

We don't racially profile, that's just wrong... We criminally profile... That means we search for the criminals using the best methods and info we have at any given time.
