the best solution is to board the male during the 5-10 day period that she is in estrus..When her discharge is not blood tinged, and she flirts with the male.
.If you board the female, she will cause all kinds of havoc in the boarding kennel..
Or, better yet..choose this week to have the male neutered..he won't feel much like pestering her!

I would kennel her if you are not planning on breeding her. She will be ready to stand at about day 10-12 of her cycle. This is not always the norm. I had a bich breed on day 23 of her cycle and she was in whelp. Keep them separated until she is no longer receptive to the male. Keep this safe and keep them apart for several weeks after she starts coming out of heat. You can flip flop them in the kennel to give them equal time in the kennel. Your male is going to howl to get to her. My 4 year old boy goes running around the property and sits right outside a kennel where there is a ***** in heat. He then gets mad at me when I put him up.

If you are going to be in the house...as long as you can watch them every second...and I mean every second you don't have to kennel either...and if you do kennel one is really does not matter which one...if they are outside....you will want your dogs seperated and also want the female where no dogs can get in...like an 8 ft kennel with a top....or in the house(away from you male)....you are going to have a long 2 weeks....from what I hear...they can get prego up to 5-7 days after they stop bleeding....good luck

if you have no intention of breeding then i would iether place him somewhere or place her somewhere. her heat cycle will last for about 3 weeks and in that time she is able to be bred and if you don't want pups then you will have to separate them till her heat is over. if you don't want to kennel them then see if you have a family member will take them for the time being till the heat is over. just let them know that you will buy what the dog needs while they are staying with them. but if you keep them at home together then you will end up having pups.
but if you do kennel them the one that would be easier to kennel would be the male because if you kennel the female then all the males at the kennel will be going crazy because she is in heat, even though they may be fixed it would stress her out to much. but again if you have a family member to watch one of them it might be easier for you and cheaper because some kennels are very expensive to house a dog for that length of time. good luck in your decsion.

Plz. Kennel her. Male dogs from all over will be visiting. If I have my facts right, 3 weeks in Heat. 1 coming in - 1 in - 1 going out.

Good Luck!! Commiserate with your male.....Poor fellow.

Your female is fertile until she stops being in heat. As long as you are there to supervise you should not have to kennel either but if you are not going to be in the room with them every second I would suggest putting one in a crate or locking it in a room when you can't supervise. It doesn't really matter which one you seperate out as it takes two to Tango! :)

Put a pair of knickers on her with a hole cut out for the tail. My mum always did that with ours. They need to be tight fitting so she cant get them off.
Or put a lightweight saddle on the male (strapping him in, so to speak) to prevent him doing anything.

Keep them apart the entire length of her heat.

If you are not planning on breeding...neuter/spay them both.
