My hubby got a really good offer from a company in Carlsbad, but I do not know much about that place and safety etc. So we r thinking of living in a known city San Diego. Please suggest.

You can certainly do that, but if you can afford it, I would suggest living in Carlsbad. Carlsbad's violent crime rate is lower than San Diego's by about half, and its property crime rate is also lower than San Diego's in general. Carlsbad is a nice place to live. Mostly richer people live there, and there are nice shops, restaurants, etc. and it's close to the beach. Of course there are nicer and less nice parts of Carlsbad, but I think the worst parts of Carlsbad aren't as bad as the worst parts of San Diego, which can get pretty scary.

If you can't afford to live in Carlsbad, I'd suggest living in Vista. Vista is a great up-and-coming community. Apartment and house prices are both lower in Vista than Carlsbad, and Vista's crime rate is low too. Vista's school district isn't as good as Carlsbad's, but it's still pretty good. It's close enough to Carlsbad via the 78 freeway, which isn't so bad compared to the I-5, and Vista also has lots of good restaurants, a movie theater, a mall nearby, etc.

However, if you do choose to live in San Diego proper, be sure to check out the neighborhood you're planning to live in BEFORE you move, as there can be major differences between the standard of living in one neighborhood versus the next. Below are links to websites with crime rates for San Diego's neighborhoods, so you can check them out. Good luck!

Depends where in San Diego you will live... lets say if you live downtown its about 40 minutes drive to Carlsbad... if you live in Del Mar area its about 20 minutes. It is not as bad of a drive as long as you going against the traffic. Do not forget to overlook the other costs. Cost of living in San Diego much higher... on average more expensive gas and housing is insanelly expensive. If you would like more information email me knghtsd2000@yahoo.com
