It was probably classified as a summary offence which is a minor charge. In the US it's a misdemeanor crime of petty larceny.
They might ask you about it at the border when they check your ID on their computer, but I'd say odds are in your favour because it's a minor offence on both sides of the border.
Just remember that they are allowed to detain people at the border for any reason they want, so don't give them a reason to choose you to fill their quota. Just be polite answer their questions and make sure your papers and proof of return ticket are in order.

the conception of having a heritage examine done on you, somewhat once you try to get a job in a police branch, will be an fairly scary and nerve-wracking time for anybody. So, do not difficulty about any thoughts of doubt you're having about dealing with the approach! you assert that your brother has 2 shoplifting costs from 13 years in the past. by no skill would this negatively effect your heritage examine, in spite of the indisputable fact so that you could a minimum of list this to the investigator(s). Having lengthy previous through a examine myself, they retain in mind that maximum anybody is amazingly uncertain of what they are seeking for for (at some factors I felt that THEY were uncertain of what it changed into they were attempting to make sure too!). My advice to you: Be thoroughly truthful with them. liberate all of those skeletons on your closet and answer their questions completely and actually, because danger is you'll favor to take a polygraph exam contained in the later degrees of the hiring procedure (till you're employing to a smaller branch, who commonly do not do polygraph tests as a results of charges in touch). sturdy success with the approach and with the quest for a "pastime in blue"!

Yeah you can, i mean we have tons of shoplifting on our own. And they don't do much except check your id, but bring a passport just in case, because the US is starting to become more strict. You will be able to get in though, don't worry about it, i mean you're canadian not a terrorist ;)

All they do is ask for your id, search your car (if your driving) a little bit, and ask why are you going. Obviously say you are vacationing! And thats it.
