Keep in mind that the Bible was written a long time ago by narrow minded men.
Today they keep tradition alive because there are those that get their brains washed...because they don't know any better.
Therefore, you don't have to become a member if you're smart enought and can think outside the box.

I have thought the same thing before, and I realized that no matter what is said there in black and white people will perceive it to what they want it to be... sad really.
However looking back in history that’s the way it was men have belittled woman throughout the ages, even today.
Given it is better now, but this is the fundamentals that the world and even the United States are based on even to this day.
In all honestly women who continue to allow these things to happen are simply giving into men and saying yes I am weaker, a less being.
Until all women can stand side by side and not allow men to treat us this way, our culture will not change.
It is sad when my niece asked me if she could be the president when she grows up (she was 5 at the time) I told her yes, but knowing that it would be very unlikely.
I doubt that in my lifetime I will ever see a woman president, and I am sure it stems from all basis of our history and religion.
On the other hand there are some Christian churches who do not belittle women and do allow them high standings in the church, but then you could ask are they really followes of their religion?

First become a member of Islam.
Once you find out how well women are treated there, then the contrast with Christianity will be clearer.
By the way, the Bible says alot of bad things about men too. It's called "truth", perhaps you've heard of it. You may not have noticed, but the Bible doesn't candy coat anything. There's only two people in the Bible about whom nothing bad is said. All the rest have flaws. What's your problem?
What are you, a narcissist that you can't bear to hear something bad about yourself no matter how true it is?
Get a grip!

The bible says many bad things about men too. 1 & 2 Kings. 1 & 2 Chronicles tell all about the bad men who led Isreal astray.
Protestant bibles have it worse because Protestants removed some of the BEST books on heroic women. The book of Wisdom and the book of Judith come to mind.

Bad ? things!? about women!??! The book of Esther is about the empress queen that saved a nation in exile from genocide! the book of Proverbs chapter 31 is a training guide for young men on what to look for in a bride! the book "Song of Solomon" is Lovesongs from a king to be sung to his bride! The emperor Constantine was rescuing the remnant of the Roman empire from two-legged swine that worshipped rape and pillage and murder when he warred on european nationals in the name of the vatican! One of those that believe Christ only attended weddings for the food... or wine! It was commUNITY,Family, and celebration! As for Paul,he gave up a politically/religious inclined family to gain the REAL relationship with GOD! The only chauvinists I know don't follow Jesus!!

Christianity is about more than just the Bible. Jesus teaches us to love everyone. Society isn't quite there yet, but we've come a bit further in the last 2000 years.

I am a christian woman and don't see God or His ways as chauvinistic. He talks about how a husband is to take care and love his wife. There are scripture that refer to how people are to act but none that talk down on women. I'd love to e-mail you and share the truth about Christianity. Please feel free to e-mail. My e-mail is thunyady@yahoo.com. Chat with you soon.

The bible says bad things about women? You should try reading the Koran - in Islam women are regarded just a little higher then the family dog.

The only bad things it speaks about women, are old laws that were abolished by Jesus when he made all things clean. They are the old ways, and Chritianity in general is not chauvinistic at all. There are off-shoot demoninations that oppress women, but aren't there always people out there who warp everything?

Christianity is very freeing, not chauvenistic to women. Jesus came to a Jewish patriarchal society.... ruled by men, dominated by men. Women were subservient and had no place of honor. Jesus taught them differently. He taught equality. In a society where women were not even to touch men who were not their husbands, he had mary magdalene anointing his feet with oil...he had the woman with the bleeding problem touching his robe. He never came against them. He honored women. He lifted them. He loved them and spoke equally of lazarus, and martha and mary.
