I'm looking for some good historical fiction, preferably a series. Any ideas?

I'm going to put this to vote instead of choosing a best answer, as they were all great answers! Thanks!

These aren't series, but they are some of the best historical fiction I have read:
Matthew Pearl's "The Dante Club" and "The Poe Shadow"
Tracy Chevalier's "Girl With a Pearl Earring"
Tobsha Learner's "The Witch of Cologne"
Kathryn Lasky's "Beyond the Burning Time" and "Blood Secret"
Elizabeth George Speare's "The Witch of Blackbird Pond"

Eugenia Price has several series. Her series starting with the book Savannah is probably my favorite. They are set in the 19th century South. Savannah starts a little bit before the War of 1812. The series continues through the civil war.

Diana Gabaldons "outlander"series. They often get put into romance, but they are definitely more hist. fiction.
