Does anyone know if the original Freeview box with a card will work in Spain and show UK programmes?

No it won't work. It's not about the box, it's about the signal. Without the signal that's only transmitted in the UK, the box will just show snow on your tv.

no, you need to be within range of a UK transmitter.
