I have to agree with you...charcoal is the way to cook food on a grill. It gives the food so much more flavor!

I prefer charcoal as well. The only problem with that is the wait. We have a gas grill because we hate to wait and I can not light a charcoal and I do most of the grilling.

I don't think any body will argue against the taste of charcoal cooked foods.
But you cant beat the ease and convenience of a gas grill. It takes a real expert to consistently turn out good results over charcoal. Not many of us are THAT good, and results will usually be mixed. With a gas grill, one can control temperature and time to a degree unmatched by charcoal.
I can just about guarantee good results with my amature experience on a gas grill. With charcoal, it's a lot of wishing and guessing.

I have tried both and prefer a gas grill. Less mess, cheaper and the fire is ready allot faster. I really couldn't tell the difference except for the charcoal lighter fluid taste!

IF YOU USE A GAS GRILL ITS THE SAME AS COOKING ON A STOVE TOP UNLESS YOU HAVE A VENT WHERE YOU CAN PLACE WOOD CHIPS IN WATER AND SMOKE THEM TO GIVE YOUR FOOD THE HICKORY TASTE. I PERFER COOKING THE OLD FASHION WAY WITH HICKORY WOOD
