Augustine argues that God created all things to be perfectly good, but, being a benevolent God, He also gave man Free Will. This gave mankind the ability to make moral choices, including bad ones. Evil comes, therefor, not from God but from the Freedom of Man to turn away from God, as Adam and Even did in Eden. There's a lot more, but that's the gist.
