Cut a hole in a piece of bread. Put it in the frying pan and crack an egg into the hole. I have heard it called :
Toad in a hole
Egg in a hole
Cowboy hat.
But my mother used to call it something different. Please tell me what you called it and maybe one of you will have my missing name.
Thanks

FUN - FRIED EGG

Slice of bread
1 egg
Butter
Season with salt and pepper

Cut out center of bread with round cookie cutter. Fry bread slice in butter. Fry egg in the hole. Use "center" of bread as "pusher".

We called it a one-eyed susie. Is that your name?

Toad-in-the-hole is entirely different, a sausage-based casserole with a crust. The sausages poke out like little brown toads.

Some people also call it a bird's nest or egg in a nest.

My Mum used to make this and call it "One-eyed Tom", or if the yolk broke while it was frying it became "Winking Tom."
