The democrats are trying desparately to gain the momentum for the next two elections, and so they have hired consultants on how to better -- I REALLY don't mean it the way it sounds, but I can't think of another term for it -- ingratiate themselves among the Christian set to try to gain votes.
In 2000, both GW Bush and Al Gore claimed to be Christians. Different groups asked for copies of their testimonies -- the thing that led them to become Christians. GW Bush had one and gave to to all who asked. Al Gore did not, and he never did.
That really irked me that Al Gore tried to rangle my vote by claiming to be something he was not just to "get on my good side."

Yag, you gotta tell us where you read this stuff. If I ever met a Democrat who claimed his was the party of the "Christian faith," I'd tell him he was sounding like some ignorant Republican fundamentalist. But in any case, I've never heard a Democrat say such a thing. I have heard Republicans say that their party is for "strong Christian values." Maybe that 28% of Republican non-Christians that you mention should rethink their position.
By the way, I have no problem believing that Christian theo-crats gravitate naturally to the current Republican thinking - and the GOP is welcome to them. I also think the great conservatives of of U.S.history are turning in their graves.

The Dem's are doing that because of how much religion the Repub's are slinging around. They have to counter it somehow. Look at how much religion has played into our recent pres' time in the big seat.
Personally, the whole religious issue in politics makes very little sense to me. Because no matter how much you play up your religion, in politics, there is going to be a lot of fingers pointing out the things you do against that religion. Example: Bush being a Christian... yet seems to want to go to war with everyone, publicly puts down Atheists as well as Wiccans and Pagans, and is now declassifying documents showing his "secret prisons" for POW's. So, all in all, he did more harm to it than good.

Maybe they are Christians. Wasn't it Jesus that said we should give away all our possessions and help those less fortunate (in Mark, 10:21-23). I think supporting welfare, social service agencies, medicare and medicaid seem to be helping those less fortunate more than tax breaks for the rich and bombing whoever doesn't agree with us.

They're just combatting the lies that Republicans tell about the same subject. Republicans are just as evil (moreso) than any Democrat. They just had the foresight to coerce Christians into believing their bullshit.

It's a sad day for this nation when politicians must resort to thumping bibles to win elections and speaks very poorly for the American people's intellectual abilities and judgment.

Thank you for clarifying that. Neo-cons, Republicans and Christians all lumped together. Yes that is true and its why this country is so screwed up right now.

Well based on the politics of it all, Jesus would be a Democrat, as if it matters. They are all just liars.
