Just before they give you the shot, hold your breath.
Tell them that you are going to blow out your breath really hard, and to give the shot while you are blowing hard,

You won't even notice it if you are concentrating on blowing hard and making the breath last a very long time while blowing hard.

Try it now. SEE??

Don't worry. I play a sports in high school and I'm required to get a physical every year. The first year I had to get a couple shots and then the next year all I needed was a tiny flu shot. I remember I used to cry like a baby before those times since I was so terrified of shots. The best way to handle it is to relax yourself. Don't get nervous while getting your shot and don't look at the needle when it's by your arm. I just keep my eyes closed or keep my mom with me to squeeze her hand. After a while, it's not a big deal and you get used to it. Your gonna be nervous when you step into the doctors office but thats normal. Also to make you feel better, make a deal with your mom or whoever's taking you to have them take you out for ice cream or something afterwards. That way your concentration is on going to the mall or the store afterwards and not the needle. So don't freak out. Honestly getting a shot is for your beneift and they keep you away from getting certain dieseaes and illnesses. I mean would you rather get a small shot that lasts 5 seconds or would you want to stuffer your whole life with some illness?

Awww...
A lot of people have anxiety over getting shots.
You could let the nurse or doctor know how VERY PANICKED you get at that time...you might even ask them to use a thinner needle- which, are a lot easier to handle!
You can also try using "mind over matter". You know, kind of psych yourself out by doing some breathing ...like you're blowing up a balloon ...and slowly exhale. Just telling yourself to be calm over and over.
Some other people find that bringing something along with them...like maybe a pic of a great memory, or a favorite person or place...allow yourself to focus on that and really put yourself into that picture during the shot time- some serious 'visualizing' really does help to take the edge off.
Also, one thing that you can be real happy about is the fact that this is usually the VERY LAST round of shots that you will need! WOOHOO! SWEEEEEEEET! So, just remember that it will be the last time you will need to rough it out for awhile.
HUGS TO YOU!
You'll be just fine sweetie!

:)

I am a grown woman with horrible fears about needles. The best thing I've found is slow breathing, in through the nose and out through the mouth with your lips puckered like you're going to whistle.
It'll be okay!!
