Lactose comes from the Latin word for milk.
It forms around 2-8% of the solids you see in milk.
Lactose intolerance happens when an enzyme needed for proper metabolization of lactose (a portion or element of milk and other dairy products), is not produced in adulthood
When you have lactose intolerance, you produce excess gas in the tummy and that also leads to diarrhea.
Milk from sheep and goats don't have lactose, and therefore does not cause lactose intolerance.

Lactose is a disaccharide that consists of β-D-galactose and β-D-glucose molecules bonded through a β1-4 glycosidic linkage. Lactose makes up around 2-8% of the solids in milk. The name comes from the Latin word for milk, plus the -ose ending used to name sugars. Its empirical formula is C12H22O11 and its molecular weight is 342.3 g/mol. In the young of mammals, an enzyme called lactase (β1-4 disaccharidase) is secreted by the intestinal villi, and this enzyme cleaves the molecule into its two subunits for absorption.

Sweetie latoctos is the substance found in dairy products like milk and cheese. Many ethnic groups like east indians, and hispanics lack the enzyme to properly breakdown lactose. Therefore they are considerd lactose intolerant, this is not a negative thing. those that suffer from this simply take a "certs" like tab,and they too can enjoy various dairy products.

it is the sugar found in dairy products, if you are lactose intolerant, your stomach does not have enough/any lactase, which is the enzyme that digests lactose.

I know it's something in milk products, I never thought to ask either. My youngest daughter can't have any dairy products and she's only 18 months old. We give her rice milk, and she really likes it.
