It's in retaliation for all the times others tried to convince them, without actual proof, that there is a God. They got tired of hearing about it.

Actually the number is much lower than that. Additionally for political, and social reasons any poll asking such a question would be biased towards religion.
If anything your argument only illustrates how religion is used in this county to control and manipulate.
