to those of you who answered my last question:
it does indeed say in one part of the bible "do not kill"
and in other parts it does say 'to kill" for whatever reason. now i ask is that not a contridiction? and the bible also says that god says that "vengance" is his and his alone.
wouldn't the death penalty be considered vengance and thereby be taking vengance away from god?
and i know some will say that justice and vengance are two different things but that is only semantics.

and by the way there are no wrong answers i am only trying to get a better understanding of things.

The difference between justice and vengeance is not only semantics... Justice is about "making whole", while vengeance is about retribution.

Granted, in criminal law the argument is generally put forward that justice is retributive, but largely society defines it as preventative or protective, or towards a higher social goal than merely retribution.

Interestingly, justice is also about a balance between two relative equals, while vengeance is unilateral in nature.

A follow up to your question might be whether the "vengeance" meted out by the death penalty were really "vengeance" or merely the result of "justice"...

The intire bilble is a contradiction. Is a book filled with stories written to insprire us to be better human beings. Try to take what you need for you life from the book, don't go on pushing other peoples buttons in order to find the faults thru out the whole thing, we will be here for eternaty if you do.
Think about it.
And unless you are here to find out if you will go to hell or not if you kill someone. Ask questions that really make scense.
Do you think that killing is bad? Do you think killing is good?
That isn't what that bilble is trying to tell you, it is trying to make you think for your self. And feel what it says more than anything. Jesus could feel the sick in people and make it go away. He felt love in his heart for everyone. Past present and future, which is way he died for us.

Think if you can... be more if you can... taking away from others, makes you crazy, but giving more of yourself and being more, makes you more, then you know more and knowlegde is power and so the story goes on and on...

Don't think so little of yourself

and THAT is another reason there are so many sects of the christian religion. everyone wants to interpret it their own way. however justice in the event of taking a life should only be done by god. it says in the bible do not judge, and doing something to make "justice" would be judgeing it. =\
