I WAS a Catholic, but am no longer. I am a Christian still though. It is BECAUSE of the bible that I left Catholicism, because the RC church does not really want its people to read it for themselves. Because once you do , you realize that most of what the RC church does is against the bible. Needing a mediator ie; priest is against the bible, limbo, celibacy, praying to saints and statues, Mary worship, the pope, Mass, the eucharist, infant baptism just to name some. Roman Catholicism is a cult if you use the true definition of the word, following one man as a leader (the pope). It is a works based system, with its tenets being based on tradition and not the bible. When you read the bible for yourself you will see the real truth. As far as original sin, I have no problem believing in that. Just be in a room with very small children and you will see that sinful nature as clear as day. Heaven and Hell may not please your fancy per se, but they are real. Its sounds like you just want to be an atheist, which is of course your choice, but if you are looking to be a "buffet" christian and conjure yourself up a God that is nothing more than a cosmic genie, don't blame the bible for doing that. Its your choice. But the fact that you were Catholic probably means that you were fed what little scripture they wanted to give you and didnt' study it for yourself.

Not quite following. You left the church for these reasons? My guess is: poor formation. Like our friend Martin Luther, you just weren't taught properly. So you don't understand.

You don't like the idea of original sin? That our First Parents did something so horrid it carries through to today? If it weren't for them we'd be in Eden right now. But instead we're in the middle of a war.

Most faiths have the same ideal of restitution for sins. Karma for instance. Buddhists teach you can transcend your Karma through prayer. Catholic absolution is no different.

Any cop will tell you - 10 people see the same crime, you will have 10 different stories. Most biblical inconsistancies can be put down to bad translators. Have you ever read the Syriac Peshitta? One of the best bibles EVER!

Limbo hasn't been taught since the 1800's.

It's Celibate. And it's biblical. If we are more interested in husbands and wives we have less time for God. Those who are celibate have more time for God and doing God's work. We (yes've taken a vow) are more pure vessels and hear His word a bit better.

We don't pray to statues. My first big clue that you're a victim of some very poor teachings. Statues are just like photos. Little representations. Not gods...

People don't like the idea of hell because they LOVE their sin. We all sin...

I went to a catholic school for 9 years. At the age of 5 I was told that I was going to hell because, my parents weren't married, and I wasn't baptized. Over time, during religion classes, not a single priest or nun could answer any questions that I had, concerning the bible or faith.

There are hundreds of reasons I don't have faith in any type of spiritualism or religion. The one's you list are valid, but I'll throw in one more. I chose to take responsibility for my own successes and failures. Prayer did nothing. It was only when I took an active hand in my life, instead of turning it over to a "higher power" did I become happy.

Being forced to church every sunday and CCD every saturday morning. No exceptions.

Catholic aerobics

Confession

Just about everything I wanted to do was a sin. Which meant that I had to feel guilty about nearly everything I did because there was a lot of "bad" things I wanted to do.

Catholic guilt.

These are the things I thought at the time. It's pretty obvious that I didn't pay a whole lot of attention in church, because my reasons were all about me - I didn't actually question any doctrine! That all came later.

I am an ex catholic but I am a Messianic believer in Yeshua (Jesus) and god's word- I hesitate to use the term Christian because of the way it has been so abused by those that claim it.
My biggest problem with the Catholic church is that most of their teeachings are completely unbiblical, yet they tech them to be and when you question the teaching and what the foundation of it is, the answers are vague and accusatory

maximum go away because of personal issues that are somewhat no longer sturdy causes. operating example one man or woman suggested that he left as a results of burning of heretics. He by no skill took into interest the superb time a heretic changed into torched. He also forgot to contemplate each and each of the human beings torched through non Catholics that were catholic. and that burning turned right into a ordinary type of execution on the on the spot.

To me, it was the notion that all non-beleivers were going to HEll. I was living in China when I was told that....and I cant help to think that this is patently false. How can so many people be doomed to Hell for nothing more than being born in a country that doesnt promote the religion?? And these are great, kind people who live peaceably, and they are going to Hell?

I was 13 years old when I realized the folly that is Christianity.

almost word for word your reasons, except I also thought the trinity was a kooky idea... and i never could believe that god would require the death of his own son to forgive people.

as for 2, 5, 6, 7 those where non-issues as my church didn't believe those anyway.

But, I could really write a book on the reasons why I left christianity.

Sounds to me like you were not in a Christian church, but maybe in a "pseudo-Christian" church. There are plenty of them. Right should not be measured by wrong.

No credible evidence to support the underlying claim.

I was raised as a Baptist and didn't really ever question the doctrine. As an adult, I was searching for evidence of God's existence. Primarily to use when trying to convert others. (irony...)

It isn't there.
