you need to join some groups. The library is one, you will see the same people there every couple of weeks and may get chatting. Otherwise join a dance class, a film group or local group (see your local paper). If you have children the playground is an ideal meeting ground. Otherwise join a History society, a club of some sort, the possibilities are endless. Look on the internet and in the local paper. Have you made friends with people in your neighbourhood?

There aren't really do's and don'ts. As an implant here in the UK I found that people were friendly but most (of the females) had their little circle of friends and weren't too keen on an outsider being let in the group! *L* But once I started working and met people I've made some lovely friends. Just be yourself and tell people you've just moved in and don't know anyone. I'm sure you'll get some invites and you can network and branch out.

Best of luck to you!

it depends where you are -- if you are in london then you can look up places where foreigners are - there are lots. If you are anywhere else then you will just have to try real hard and be magnanimous to the ignorant people there that don't want to know anyone foreign as there are plently of them.
