Seriously, Building a WALL??? Who are we trying to keep out? The people who work on our farms/dairies? Who do our landscaping and build our houses?
It's gotten to the point that marines are out there building our walls. The marines would be more useful tracking down the people who cause trouble stateside, not keeping people out. I mean, if we're going to use the marines for something out of their job description, shouldn't it be for something more important. Like building houses for the people who suffered after Katrina. Why is it that immigration has become such an issue?
I think Bush is just trying to sidetrack us from the REAL issues.
And he's doing a fabulous job.

Ugh. I don't know why I bother with you people. Everytime I'm on here, you all think that America is so great and that Bush does everything right. Well, that's great for you.

LOOK: American tax dollars go to AMERICANS. Illegal immigrants don't get welfare. You have to be a legal citizen to actually apply for it.

OH YEAH, and i was clearly exaggerating to make a point. I KNOW that the conflict in Germany is very different from the conflict here. I'm not stupid.

Well, building a wall alone doesn’t remind me of Berlin. And anyway the proposed wall is designed to keep people out, not in. And after all, he has proposed granting amnesty to the 8-11 million illegal aliens who are already here.
But it does remind me of "1984". PERMANENT WAR
I just want you to know that, when we talk about war, we're really talking about peace." —George W. Bush, June 18, 2002
War is Peace-George Orwell, "1984"
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/blog/2006/03/20/BL2006032000742.html
"Big Brother is Watching" -The so called "Patriot Act" Take a good look at and you'll see Big Brother putting his foot in your door, or closing it in your face.
THOUGHT POLICE
Charged with eradicating dissent and ferreting out resistance, the ever- present Thought Police described in "1984" carefully monitored all unorthodox or potentially subversive thoughts. The Bush administration is not prosecuting thought crime yet, but members have been quick to question the patriotism of anyone who dares criticize their handling of the war on terrorism or homeland defense.
INFALLIBLE LEADER
An omnipresent and all-powerful leader, Big Brother commanded the total, unquestioning support of the people. He was both adored and feared, and no one dared speak out against him, lest they be met by the wrath of the state.
President Bush may not be as menacing a figure, but he has hardly concealed his desire for greater powers. Never mind that he has mentioned -- on no fewer than three occasions -- how much easier things would be if he were dictator. By abandoning many of the checks and balances established in the Constitution to keep any one branch of government from becoming too powerful, Bush has already achieved the greatest expansion of executive powers since Nixon.
Big Brother is not Love!

You HAVE to be stupid to think that illegals don't get welfare, they have fake id's, and once you are able to get a drivers license, which is easy to get with fake papers since social security cards are easy to fake, then you can get welfare. You do not have to prove you are a citizen of this country to get welfare or food stamps. You can rest assured i know my facts on all of these things i am saying.
And the reason we are building the wall is because a lot of criminals are coming across our borders and causing mayhem here, pick up a news paper or watch the news and you will see this. They are over crowded in the NC federal prison where they hold illegals waiting to be deported. The prison system has way too many illegals that have committed felonies, that they are over crowded as well.
Learn your facts before coming onto here so you don't look like such an ignorant idiot. And btw, I'm a democrat, and hate most of what our "dear president" does, so thinking that everyone that is for this wall and anti-illegals is a republican is a wrong thing to do. Also, i would gladly deport them all so that the people who are homeless and have no job, or the people who are on welfare that have no job, can get one.
This IS a real issue, you just need to open your eyes to see that. And next time those illegal friends of yours have a rally, go down there with them while they desecrate our flag, and hate you for being anything but mexican. Go down there and see how much they really hate Americans, then ask them why they are here if they hate us so much.

You are obviously young or you wouldn't ask that question. Any other country in the world would not be this easy to get into. I am married to a first generation American from So.Africa. They lost everything in the revoluion, and waited 7 years to become citizens and pay taxes and he did 10 years as a marine. I worked 2 jobs to get 3 college degrees, my parents worked 3. I want my taxes to pay for American kids and schools and American's medical bills. That's hard enough-we cannot support the world, though we seem to be expected to and are still called the bad guys-ALL THE AVERAGE AMERICAN WANTS IS TO HAVE THEIR MONEY AND TIME AND EFFORTS GO TO AMERICA FIRST- that's fair?! I sent a truckload to Katrina victims from California, and 200.00 to 911 help- Bush isn't doing enough domestically- we need someone in who is not afraid to say to hell with bi-partisan poop and work- I don't care where they come from. Bush did not make this mess on his own- the liberals horny ex Clinton did help too along with alot of others, while he disrespected our whitehouse and his wife and country. A very smart but self serving man (wow, I just described a true politician!)PS, we are using National guard and not marines by the way---and the democrats are also doing a good smear and sidetrack job- lets get em all out and vote in some patriotic hardworking PRO-AMERICAN people!

A protected border will not only stem the tide against illegal immigration, but a weak border is not good for national security. Without checks, anyone could come into the country. Why should we have to build houses for people who lost theirs in Katrina? The only people I feel sorry for are the ones who aren't getting thier insurance money. Who really thinks its a good idea to build a house where there are machines pumping out water to keep it from flooding? Whenever a multi-million dollar house collapses in Malibu you never hear of people rallying to get them a new house. Keep asking the questions Moonbeam. Maybe we can all sit together on a big peace blanket and sing "Michael Row The Boat Ahsore" while eating organic smores

There aren't enough people at the border screening for criminals, terrorists, and the like to leave it open. In addition, alot of people come over the boarder and die or come close to it due to the desert being there and all. So, rather than spend the money to patrol the border and screen people coming through it, they are building a fence which they believe will be cheaper in the long run.
Do you believe the Marines are suppose to do anything but protect our marinas? Like Iraqi marinas? What is the National Guard supposed to be doing and isn't?
As for Katrina...the foolish man built his house upon the sand and the rains came down and the floods came up and the house upon the sand went splat.

No it doesnt.
At this rate in 15, 20 years their will be a shortage of jobs. There is actually alot of Americans working hard labor jobs escpically in the south. I do not know where you live but in Los Angeles at rush hour we sit and wait in traffic for hours in the morning and afternoon because Los Angeles is overpopulated(there is a large number of immigrants from Mexico in California). Also the last study I looked showed atleast 50% of medical was to illegals (medical is a healthcare program which pays for medical expensives for people who cannot afford it) which takes a very large portion of our taxes. People have been coming over from Mexico illegally for a very long time and it has took awhile for AMerica to see the difference but somany have came over now it is effecting out traffic, taxes , jobs etc. So i f were to continue at this rate people will be saying in 20 years why didnt anyone do anything to stop it . Another problem is overcrowding in jails the jails are being overpopulated so they are releasing criminals early their is a variety of people in the jails all different races and every kind but as well a large number of immigrants. So I agree with the wall. We just cannot let unlimited amount of people in the country. Our economy just cannot allow it. The border is to large to patrol all of it someone will be able to get by so the fence will help alot

yes - a berlin wall - stopping whover for fear that they will be a political agitator. Whats behind the wall becomes sterile because it is controlled like something in a petry dish. Thats what east germany was like until the war fell. There is going to be a wall between my country - canada and yours the us. Division --- Division - we speak the same accent - buy the same products and watch the same sports and shows. We eat the same food - after the wall is buit we will both change as nations never to be the same again . The closeness will be severed forever

Well you must not live in the states affected with ILLEGAL immigrants or what we call "wet backs". Have you listened to the news where in Colorado this "wet back" tied a woman to the bumper of his car and drove for 1 mile, ofcourse killing her, and her face was unrecognizable. You think of building houses and landscaping and picking fruit, etc. Well believe me the ones who are coming over are murders, rapists, drug dealers, prostitutes, and all the scum that Mexico wants to get rid of. So I say build the Biggest damn wall possible and arm the border with machine guns.
