I am just giving you my opinion. I read your comments on this forum and I see your problem really isn't disbelief, your questions and comments are from not understanding what the Bible really says. Someone like you, will eventually see the truth (you are the type that has to see proof, just like I did). I used to not believe... I wasn't brainwashed into believing, either,ok? But how can anyone comment or not believe in something as the Bible, if they have never read the entire book? You can't take bits and pieces from the book and run with it, nor can you listen to what others say about it. You can't trust anyone nowadays when it comes to the Bible, you HAVE to find out yourself, and the only way you can do that is to read (EACH word), and seriously concentrate on each word. It isn't a novel that you can skip over words (as in speed reading).
I was like you.
Now, to get to your question: the church is the body of Christ. The body of Christ attends church. Jesus (that is His Greek name, by the way, not His Hebrew, real name), does rule the church; it is Him who we believe in, it is Him who we follow and want to be like; however, I see your point. Many so-called Christians go to church and think they are ideal Christians, but in fact, are hypocrites that think they are going to heaven. Here is a fine example of scripture that accuses some of being hypocrites:
Matthew 7:22
Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
True Christianity is following all of God's rules, not man-made rules. Man-made rules are religions.

The church provides a corporate means of worshiping God. The nature of your individual relationship with God is what is important and the church is but one means of maintaining that relationship. Neither the church nor individuals can fully understand God, if they could they would be God and there is only one God.

Christ gave Peter the Keys to the Kingdom; the power to bind and loose in heaven from his position on earth. Peter had primacy among the apostles. Christ built his Church upon Peter. Peter made it necessary that vacant "offices" in the Church be filled. Peter assured that his authority would be passed on when he was not in his office. Peter's authority, as well as his successors is that of the Holy Spirit, not man. In teaching truth, those who sit on the seat of Peter do so with the authority of the Holy Spirit and do so thus without fallibility. So, yes, there IS a special relationship there.
Don't think that Peter was not singled out as special. Christ himself told his apostles that Satan has asked for them (plural), but says to Peter "I have prayed for you (singular)". Why not all of them, why just Peter?
There are many questions here (if not all of them) that are not new. But they have been answered. Read the Catechism. The Truth will not be denied to any who seek it in earnest.
God Bless,
MoP
PS ... Don't be confused. All teachings and all doctrine of the Church (the one holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church) are scriptural and not in contradiction; not by man's doing, but by the Holy Spirit's.

There is only one True Church.... The Church of which Jesus The Christ is The Head. Only those who come to God in The Way He proscribes will receive His free gift of Salvation and become part of the Body that is The Church and be alowed to enter Heaven.
No man invented doctrin or dogma will get anyone into Heaven...
I accept honest email questions concerning the basics of The True Christian Faith. Or you may read my pov and some about The Faith at:

Yes. But it is a relationship that anyone can have if only you can accept what is being offered through salvation. Everyone who is willing to accept and praise has a place in God's church. True, church's can be very judgemental and political at times, but its what is in the indivdual's heart that matters. God knows everyones heart. There is no fooling Him. If you go to worship and praise, then that is all that really matters.

HIS church IS ruled by Him. What you see are men's churches. You haven't found the Lord's church.
HIS church IS here, or He was a liar. One has to SEEK Him to find Him. If one doesn't want to. That's ones (God given) right.
Peace
NOMARK,
