yes i have had depression before many many times over. You will start feeling better in 2-4 weeks. You know its working when you no longer want to die (don't think about ways to kill yourself), when things are finally more interesting (hobbies, people, life). If you still have these feelings after 4 weeks GO BACK TO THE DOCTOR!! This means you need to be changed to a different medication because that one is not working.
I also kind of get the impression you are comparing anti-depressants to a placebo pill. These are what they give people and then tell them its a real medication to see if it's a mind-over-matter thing. This is done ONLY in studies before the pill ever hits the shelf. If this is what you're asking be assured you really are receiving a REAL medication and not a pill made of sugar. Hope this helps! good luck.

you actually don't. Once you're really down, it takes 1) some time for meds to kick in 2) some time for you to shake off the depression and anxiety and function normally.. The thing is, don't rush, health is top priority. Give it some time, attend counselling, take your meds as prescribed. start function slowly, progressively take more and more difficult task and next think you're know, you function normally and can live your life normally as before.

Antidepressants work best when taken with therapy. Your therapist will be the best one to help you there. Depression is more than chemistry, it is bad habits you burn into your brain. Building better connections to your mind is key to your well-being.
