During your first few years after birth, you will have passed "poo" and "wee" on numerous occassions with absolutely no control over where and when. This is because you had not gained control of the sphincter muscles in your anus and urethra, which when contracted, block passage of waste via the relevant channels. As you grow and are potty trained, you learn to control these muscles and relax them only when it is appropriate to do so. When you now go for a "poo", you are relaxing the sphincter muscle in your anus and the stool is passed. Simultaneously, you also relax the sphincter at the top of your urethra, allowing urine to pass also, but this is not intentional. Then, you may ask, why do you not drop a "poo" when you go for a "wee"? The sphincter in your anus is easier to control because it is contracted more throughout the day the one in your urethra.

Try this:
bend your ring finger (its the one next to the pinkie finger) to your palm without touching it, moving the other fingers as less as possible
now try doing the same with your pinkie finger. see how your ring finger goes down too, even when you don't want it to?

WIth respect to your sphincters, your pinkie finger is the one in the anus, and the ring finger is the one in the urethra.

hope this answered your question.

The muscles you use to push (bear down) in order to empty your bowels also control your bladder. When you bear down, you're also telling our body to eliminate your urine. Perfectly natural.

One way to change this is to make a habit of urinating prior to bearing down for your bowel movement.
