Just talk to them about whatever it is that is on your mind. Then ask what do you think? Or how he feels.

Why do people feel the need to make an announcement of any sort that you are going to talk before you begin talking?
That in of itself sends the mind racing. Why not just wait until the two of you are alone and relaxed, and just start saying whatever is on your mind without all of the anticipation building pretense? If you need to get him away from his friends for a moment so that you can have some privacy, then just say, I need to see you alone for a moment.

I have been thinking or I have something on my mind. That may be a little better. Anytime I tell my husband I have been thinking, he says, "that's scary". If nothing else, it lightens the mood some.

Don't say "Got a minute?' Bosses tend to use that when they fire people.
