when my aunt was diagnosed with brain cancer, we started having all kinds of fundraisers. we held bake sales, garage sales, we even went to a few karaoke bars and struck a deal with them to donate half the money! There are all kinds of things you can do to get people to help. We have stood in front of grocery stores with pamphlets & information on the specific type of cancer we were raising money for. good luck!

You can go out to your local grocery stores, asking them if they would mind you putting up a jar for him/her & tell them why. Also you could buy some good prizes and do a fundraiser (like raffle tickets) and do a drawing on a certain day, get people to buy the tickets. Also you could do a car wash for him to raise money. There are plenty of things. You can ask permission at a grocery store (that has alot of business) if you could set up a table outside to raise money for your friend that has cancer. Set you up a table & make a sign to tell why you are raising money for them, and a picture of them would probably help to be on the sign. Just go buy a poster board to do that. You can go up to people and ask when they come up to the store or you can just sit back & people will donate some money. Trust me, these things work:) Hope everything works out for you!

Have fund raiser with all your friends and relatives. go to Starbucks and get free gift cards, go to local stores and do the same, get free tickets from a show in the area, movie, theatre whatever to sell in an auction. Then advertise the party and tell people it's for charity.
Draft a general letter describing your intent and the story of your friend's family and give it to the retailers whom you are asking for their stuff to sell.
This has worked for my sister who did the same for a friend who got hit by a car and needs therapy for the rest of her life.
She raised $500.00 which isn't a lot but she did a small group.
And any amount will help. Also, it will really lift your friend's spirit to feel so much work has been done to help her.

Our community had a "shave-off" to raise money for individuals with cancer. Basically you would have volunteers sign up to have their heads shaved to raise awareness for cancer, and they have to get sponsors to pledge a certain amount of money up until the day of the shave-off. You can target a group of people, like his office buddies or his friends. Have the local paper involved in order to get more donations. Set up a trust fund account at the bank. We also had a performance of several local musicians at our community theatre to raise money.

If you are still in school, I would suggest starting by talking to the principal. He/She can direct you to someone who would know what to do. Schools participate in fundraising/charity all the time. If you aren't in school, you can still go back to your old school and speak to the people there who would know what to do. Other people would be any teacher who leads a community service organization or any club. Clubs like 4-H are a good place to start too, because they also participate in community service. There are so many things you could do that you just need to make a list and narrow it down to what will be easiest/most efficient for you.

50/50 drawing. Half of the proceeds to friend, half to winner. Do you know anyone involved in the American Legion or VFW? The Legionaires, Sons of the American Legion, Ladie's Auxilliary would be very informative and possibly assist in your fund raising. Can't hurt to ask. What about churches -- they do a lot of fund raising. Bless your friend. Good luck

In addition to all the other great ideas, why not arrange a local fun run/walk? A one mile or a 5K?

If you make more than your friend needs, you can give it to another needy cancer fighter. Good Luck!!!

I would start by picking a date you could hold a benefit on and then start going to your local businesses and radio stations and asking for donations for food, drinks, items etc...) you could auction off the items and feed all the people that come. ask a local band to donate thier time and it will just escalate from there.
