The timing marks go as follows: If you are installing NEW timing chains, fold both chains EXACTLY in half. There should be ONE copper link on one end, and TWO copper links on the OTHER end. Set the cam sprockets as follows: Passenger (or right, but facing YOUR left) bank cam sprocket timing mark should be at the 10 to 11 o'clock position. Driver (or left, but facing YOUR right) bank cam sprocket timing mark should be positioned at around the 1 o'clock position. The crank sprocket (the dot) should be positioned at exactly the SIX o'clock position. Assuming you have both the left and right timing chain tensioners with lock pins holding them in the released position handy, install a pair of vise grips on the DRIVER bank camshaft while having an assistant ready to turn the cam as necessary to enable installation of the chain in the proper position. With the chain guides installed, position the chain with the ONE copper link on the mark at the CRANK sprocket (the SECOND sprocket, the one closest to the block). Holding in that position, orient the other end of the chain with the TWO copper links onto the CAM sprocket timing mark. Have the assistant turn the cam as necessary to enable it to be installed in this position. Note: On the DRIVER bank cam, DO NOT confuse the cam sensor pickup with the timing mark. The mark should be a DOT, while the cam sensor pickup will be a PROTRUSION. Once the chain is set into position, have the left timing chain tensioner handy with the two 10mm bolts and install the tensioner. Once the bolts are tightened, pull the lock pin to allow the tensioner to release the piston. CAUTION: DO NOT ALLOW THE CHAIN TO JUMP TEETH DURING THIS PROCEDURE. FAILURE TO TIME THIS ENGINE CORRECTLY WILL RESULT IN VALVE AND PISTON DAMAGE!!!!!Repeat procedure the PASSENGER bank cam. Do NOT forget to reinstall the crank sensor trigger wheel onto crankshaft after both chains are installed, PRIOR to reinstalling the timing cover. Hope this helps. GOOD LUCK. This a VERY crucial procedure.
