He doesn't contiue to drink. If he drinks friday night, he wakes up drunk saturday and sunday morning you can still tell it's in his system. Why is hsi body not metabolizing the alcohol.BTW probably important. Two beers affects him the same as 20 beers. I think he is so alcoholic that it doesn't matter. It is bizarre. I want to understand why this is "physically" happening. He is getting help. But I want to know why it is affecting his body like this. And what can he do, other than quit drinking, which he is working on. Is his body in need of a vitamin or such??

I know he is not drinking more. Because I am with him. And I can tell by his behavior. He went to the doctor and got a physical and they said that he is healthy. What kind of tests should I specifically ask for?

In a generally healthy human, the BAC decreases by .015-.020 % an hour. Altho medical textbooks say you die at a 4.0 that's not true. I have personally seen pts. admitted to detox with a .72 yes that's not .072 but .72! One woman I know drank a liter of Vodka a day for 30 years, altho she is now paying the price. So the tolerance level in alcohol abuse is vast. People who drink regularly have a higher threshold. Some people are not able to produce enough of the correct liver enzyme that breaks down alcohol so they stay "drunk" for a longer period of time. Have your Dr. order a liver panel and palpate your husband's liver. Along with the history you report, his findings may suggest cirrhosis of the liver.

If it happens one night a month, no, if its one night a week then that is going to become 2, or 3, then each night, then particular. that's what in probability ability, its no longer which you're an insane binge drinker its that in the process your suggestions its proper, and whats proper can become typical, then it gets to be a undertaking, somewhat in case you have 4 beverages at a 4 hour occasion, and start up finding for events each night. Its no longer what 'we' human beings have faith its what documents tutor, and that they tutor that individuals who drink those 4 glasses of wine have an inclination to bypass directly to drink extra in many situations. you additionally can remember that individuals who do have severe problems are consistently confident its the different individual who has the undertaking, no longer them. So very own conviction isn't the excellent gauge of a undertaking with alcohol. AA has a itemizing of symptoms and indications too, 'those' human beings be attentive to this from journey.

Alot of these factors depend on his age, overall health. His body requires vitamins especially magnesium because alcohol depletes a drinker. Most do not eat well. The shakes are attributed to a decrease in magnesium Everyone should take like a stress Tab everyday anyway. He needs to quit period. There really is no working on it . His liver which metabolizes alcohol may be impaired and he now can't take care of the alcohol consumption like other people. It stays in his system longer. He needs good nutrition, vitamins, support group, other activities that help him cope differently and he probably will never be able to be a social drinker.A liver enzymes panel may not show damage now if he is young but generally will elevate later which as the liver fails, esophageal varices develop due to circulation backing up. One breaks and it's a horror show of blood loss. He can develop a jaundice (yellow) appearance and clay coloured stools (poop). Hepatic encephalopathy later occurs due to the liver not being able to break down ammonia, the levels increase and he becomes toxic with impaired brain function with seizures, coma, and death. Both of you get involved with activities and talk. Talk alot. Try alcoholic's Anonymous. I think it is ineffective for the times we live in, others disagree. He needs to save himself. You can help but it's really up to him. I'm sorry that you have chosen this partner. I really hope he turns around for himself and those that love him.

If your husband has been an alcoholic for a long time. He probably has what is called reverse tolerance where his liver can not process the alcohol very well anymore. So, it takes less to get him drunk and he stays drunk longer. There is little to do other than stop drinking. And more importantly he needs to stop drinking because he may have developed liver disease or will develop liver disease.

Chirrosis of the liver. From having been an alcoholic so long. Alcohol is processed through the liver, and if it doesn't work, it isn't processed...he needs a doctor. And of course, he needs to stop drinking. Good luck with that. And the lying about what and when he drinks.

And maybe you're just seeing the 2 beers that seem to affect him like 20... he's hiding the other 18...

To answer your question you would need to talk to his doctor. He should have a complete exam, join AA, and quit the drinking altogether. You on the other hand should join an Al-anon group. Go to Al-Anon.Alateen.org for a list of meetings in your area. Al-Anon will help you more than you know.

Have his liver checked.
I had a former business partner with the same problem.
He was arrested for drunk driving and it took three days to blow clean.
Eventually he had to get a transplanted liver.
In the meantime, I would discourage him from drinking.
