Instead of right clicking the dir. name and checking the properties, I want to get the info. in command line for windows 2000/XP

You would have to actually open the directory and then do a "dir" command inside the directory. It will list all the files with a summary at the bottom which includes number of files and total size of the directory. Not aware of any way to get the size from outside the directory.

If you wanted the size of the directory "c:\temp" you would "cd c:\temp" to get into that directory. Then do a "dir" to get the listing and summary.
