Pasta is always the easiest since you're just boiling the pasta and throwing in a heated sauce. Add some bread and you've got a meal.

But if you're looking for other ideas, this website is all about recipes you can prepare in only 10 minutes.

My standard is quick, easy, and healthy besides. I start with chicken broth, put in some garlic and spices (which ones depends on what else I put in, but red pepper flakes are good if you like things spicy, or I use other things as I'll mention in a second. I chop up some vegetables (or you can shake frozen ones in) - whatever you like, the quicker-cooking the better and add some kind of cooked meat to the mix. Then I cook it until the rice is done. For a change of pace, I've substitutes small pasta shapes (like orzo or small shells) and cooked them separately, then removed most of the cooking liquid and put in the rest to finish.

I most commonly use cooked chicken and broccoli florets, but I have done this with shrimp and asparagus (tarragon is good as a spice for something delicate like this), canned salmon and cabbage (caraway seeds make it seem Scandinavian), or whatever else I have lying around. I've also done a vegetarian-style where I leave out the meat, use spinach as the vegetable, and stir in grated Parmesan cheese and almonds at the end. The entire meal takes 10-15 minutes, and I can make a salad while it cooks.

Steak Sandwich

1 large strip, round, or shell sirloin steak, weighing between 12 ounces and 1 pound

1/2 t. coarsely ground black pepper

Salt to taste

2-3 T. oil

2 T. chopped onion

4 oz. crimini mushrooms, cleaned and chopped

1/2 t. thyme

1 loaf French or Italian bread, or 1 Vienna loaf

3-4 T. prepared mustard

Trim any excess fat from the steak. Sprinkle both sides with pepper and salt, then brush with a tablespoon of the oil. Heat a cast-iron or nonstick pan and sear the steak about 2 minutes on each side. Remove from the pan. Cook the onion for 2 minutes in the remaining oil, then add the chopped mushrooms, sprinkling them with the thyme and a little salt. Cook, stirring, until they have softened. If the mixture dries out, add a tablespoon or so of water.

Cut a large piece of bread about 1 inch longer than the steak. (If you're using a Vienna loaf, you may not need to cut it at all.) Slice it lengthwise through the middle, leaving an uncut edge as a hinge. Spread both cut sides of the bread liberally with mustard. Now place the steak on the bottom half and scatter the mushroom mixture on top. Fold the top half of the bread down. Wrap the sandwich in two layers of plastic wrap. Take a long piece of string and tie the sandwich up tightly as if it were a parcel, knotting the string in several places. Put the sandwich on a plate and place another plate on top of it. Now weight it down with either cans of food or a bowl filled with water. Leave it for 8 hours or overnight in the refrigerator or other cold place. When you rescue it from the weights, it will be firm and flat. For serving, unwrap it and slice it on the diagonal so you have several strips, each about 3/4 to 1 inch wide. Arrange these on a platter with a bowl of relish or chutney to accompany them

Huge bowl of pasta, cook al dente then toss in olive oil to prevent it from sticking. Do two sauces for it so that they can choose (tomato and cheese, garlic & cream) do a big bowl of salad and some garlic bread (a large baguette, sliced into rings then spread with garlic butter - 5 mins hot oven)
They all help themselves, its easy to do a crowd pleaser and easy to serve all at once so you dont have to mess about with courses and stuff!

stick a chicken in the oven, with some salt, pepper and whatever else you have - garlic, lemon juice, chilli, herbs, inside it. Cook at 190 degrees for about an hour and a half and leave to stand whilst you prepare a salad and cut up some French bread.

A favourite of mine is:

Garlic butter (can buy this in a stick form pre-mixed)
Raw Shrimp (Peeled and De-veined)
5 minute rice.

In pan melt butter (Med - High), while butter is melting (don't burn) thaw the shrimp (if frozen) in microwave (don't cook!).

Rinse Shrimp, pat dry with paper towel. Put in pan with butter. Cook rice according to instructions. ( 5 min approx) . Flip shrimp to cook until opaque and pink. (5-6 min.)

Serve rice in bowl, with shrimp and butter sauce over top. Exact proportions are up to you..

Total time approx 10 min.

Buy boneless skinless chicken (about 2 lbs), put it in a pot of 4 cups of boiling water, 1 bay leaf, salt to taste, diced carrots, cubed potatoes, diced celery, 2 cloves of garlic, 2 cups of shredded cabbage and 1/2 cup of minced fresh cilantro. Simmer for about 40 mins. Garnish with diced avocado.
Enjoy!

Pasta is always a people pleaser and satisfying.
Jar sauce is always great in a pinch. Brown some ground beef and add it. The pasta should only take about 10-12 minutes to cook. Serve with bread and salad.
