when I have the antenna to begin with? I had my dish professionally installed so I don't think it's hooked up wrong. I probably need a booster.

I live about 75 miles from Little Rock (ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox sources. I still use an antenna, rotor and amplifier for major networks. Picture quality is less than my satellite channels but good enough for me. Save your money by using your own antenna.

Check with antennaweb.org to see which channels are available, whether they are digital/analog, their distance and bearing from your address, and what antenna is recommended to pull them in.

Could be you're just pointed in the wrong direction, or have too long a cable run (<50 ft shouldn't require a preamp/amp).

Edit: Digital channels received via antenna are SUPERIOR to ones carried over satellite. Satellite compresses the signal which degrades the quality. Satellite is subject to rain fade, while not even the heaviest rains can faze my OTA HD channel reception.

Stick with the antenna, it is FAR SUPERIOR to satellite reception of locals. Plus, HD channels broadcast PSIP data, which contains episode descriptions and schedules. Most OTA receivers can display EPGs.

You may have a problem with your firmware in your box or your antenna may be off angle. Professional installation does not guarantee the angle will stay correct especially in the wind and rain. Call the company to have them ping your box and f that does not work then adjust the dish.
