Is there anything natural that I could take to help?

I went to college with a girl who started taking anti-depressants for depression in our second year. Within 3 months, her doctor prescribed her Paxil, then Celexa, then Zoloft. While she was taking Paxil, she was like a zombie, sleeping all the time and not doing anything productive. She would fall asleep in class and nothing could wake her up. When taking Celexa, she became extremely aggressive with people and even tried to stab her boyfriend. Zoloft made her manic and landed her in the hospital (after she threw a pot of coffee in a stranger's face). She spent the next 6 weeks in psychiatric care (involuntarily) and was diagnosed as manic depressive (or bipolar). Then she took a high dose of Lithium for the next year.

She now has a great boyfriend and a new baby girl and has no plans of taking anti-depressant meds again. She follows a strict diet (no sugars, flours, caffeine, chocolate, dairy, eggs, or soy), exercises regularly, and takes vitamin supplements every day. I have never seen her so happy. She still sees her therapist every 6 months (or when needed).

If you think Zoloft is not the best thing for you, then you should try and do something about it. You should make that decision for yourself and forget about everyone else's opinion.

Always keep your options open and best of luck to you.

Hi traci, if you dont mind me asking why do you want to come off Zoloft? there are really no known home remedies that will have the same effect. If you are dealing with depression getting out and doing stuff has been found to help...you can try therapy without medicine if it is something you would consider. Studies have shown that therapy with a psychologist had the same effect on the brain chemistry than medicine did. Good luck

Studies have shown that St. Johns Wart, can sometimes help in the aid of depression. I wouldn't recommend that you just stop taking the Zoloft as you may have drug withdrawals from it. You must slowly wean yourself off of it. Talk to your doctor and ask him about getting off of it. Don't try it yourself because you could do yourself more harm than good. There are plenty of anti-depressants out there that are very effective maybe you need to be put on something else. I have been on Lexipro for about two years now and it works great for me, but that doesn't mean it will work great for you talk to your doctor about it. I am Bipolar and have been on many drugs some have worked and some have been disasters. Just do yourself a favor and talk to your doctor.

Like the previous posters have said there is nothing natural that will replace the zoloft. You should definately do a search on foods that will help you with anxiety or depression.

Some foods for example bananas are shown to improve depression/anxiety.

Taking proper supplements such as calcium, omega 3, magnisium etc may help as well.

The best thing to do is consult your Dr

Very importantly make sure to wean yourself from the meds!

Best of luck!

Yes, there is. I did it myself, and I'll you how I did it.
For a small fee. Just playing with you.
I hope you are reducing your dose gradually, your doctor probably told you about that. I'm asssuming you've talked to him or her. If you haven't, go see your doctor. Talk to them too.
Go to the gym. Work out and the natural painkillers, endorphins, will become your new, natural antidepressant. You can start to look better and healthier, too.

i was on an off similar med - paxil. though i hate its side effects, going off of it was the worse choice in my life. Although i succesfully went through the withdrawal hell - and felt fine, after 2 months i got brutally depressed, couldn't function normally and i'm worry abou tlosing my job. on my med i was ok , the side effects were nothing compared to what i'm going through now. So when going off, think about it twice.. it's important decision. you might be ok without it, but also, you might not.. and you'd regret it in that case, believe me.
