I think any sneaker you can find that is most comfortable on your foot will be just fine. I go to the gym everyday and I found my sneakers at Wal-Mart almost 2 years ago and they haven't failed me yet. Get something with cushion, something that breathes and is comfortable to you. If you are on a budget you can still find a good pair anywhere from Wal-Mart to Payless. Sneakers do not wear fast, especially when you will only be using them for the gym, so have fun finding the right pair!

Everyone is different and has varied opinions. A shoe that may feel great on one person may give another person a backache. I experienced this with several brands and I have found New Balance to be the best shoe for me. The higher numbers have more support so if you are going to be running in them, look for numbers above 600 (the numbers are on the front of the shoe above the laces usually). I also find it helpful to use Dr. Scholls inserts in my sneakers for added support.

Just go to the store and try a whole bunch on. I wouldn't worry too much about the brand as long as you are sticking with something fairly high end like Nike, Rebok, New Balance...something like that. Keep trying them on until you find the most comfortable one for your foot. A good pair of shoes is worth the cost for your own comfort and that will last you a long time.
