If you've been in the US for 5 years, I believe you are eligible to apply for a permanent residence. Or, you can marry a US citizen and get a green card that way. Marriage gives you a higher percentage of successfully obtaining a green card, if you are an illegal immigrant, rather than by petition. You should consult with an immigration lawyer to find out more about other ways to get a green card, e.g.: asylum. Another question, why don't you ask the church or hospital you're working in, to petition for your permanent residency? You guys can foot the legal bill for the lawyer or you can pay it yourself, either way is OK. A lawyer can give you a lot of help when applying for a green card. Good luck!

You should go back to your home country and get in touch
with the US Department of Immigration and Naturalization
Services on the proper steps to immigrate to the USA
legally. If you're here illegally, there's always the chance you
will be caught, and be sent back to your home country.
Is there a reason you couldn't come to the USA legally?
You should talk to people you know who are US citizens,
friends, people at work, where you volunteer, and ask
them for their advice on the steps to come to the USA
and stay here legally. You should do this before you leave
the USA.

an attorney would help alot call one and explain your situation it is alot better to file thru an attorney than on your own. also they will look at your status now as if you pay taxes, what nationality you are, how long you have been here, your criminal background, chances are they will make you go home and file there.
i am going thru about the same here except i'm not an immigrant my husband is he got picked up by immigration it cost me $8,000 to get him out we are still going thru court. he has been here for 11 years has 3 kids and married he payes taxes, and has no criminal background and they still want to send him back to file there. it is a big mess dealing with it.
also all these people on here need to give the immigrants a break all they are doing is trying to live a better life.not all immigrants are bad or selling drugs there are a lot of them that work for a living and work harder than most americans

Forget what some of the other brainless people are telling you. At lest you want to do something about your status. And I give you credit for that. But I do agree that living here illegally is plain wrong. I can't help you but good luck.

Pay someone to marry you so you can get your papers... its rather expensive though.. I would do it for a down payment of $4,000.00 and the $150 a week for a year after that. Plus a place for me to stay. Im being serious message me!
