This is not about bad dogs this is about bad owners! If the dog is out walking with it's owner the owner should be able to control their dog. How ever with most of these dogs that are attacking they are getting loos and were not properly tied up or placed in fenced in yards! or in a crate. while the owner is not with the animal. However because of these terrible dog owners we all have to suffer. No I do not own a rotty but have worked in a vet clinic for 2 yrs and all of the rottys and other dogs that are "dangerous" that i have ever been in contact with have been great! It's really all about the training in the dog! and yes I know know better then anyone a good dog can go bad. but it doesn't necessarily have to be one of the so called dangerous breeds! It could be a lab or a golden of even a cocker spainel.
If you are that terrified of those dogs then you should just walk around them and don't go near them, dogs since fear! I suppose that this will more then likely come to that point of muzzling rottys or pit's if that's the case then i feel sorry for the good pet owners that have worked very hard to prove our society wrong about these breeds. But because to many people just don't give a crap these day's. it may have to come to this point. IT'S VERY SAD!

Once again...... It's not the dog, its the owner!!! There is no such thing as a bad breed.

Theory has it that all dogs are decedents of Wolves. Bred up, bred down, or cross bred to make up the breeds we have today. It these breeds that everyone calls "vicious"or "dangerous" are really that big of a threat to people, do you honestly think that the breed would be recognized by the AKC?

So putting a muzzle on a dog because of the ignorant people who do not know how to properly train or socialize their animal is wrong. People like to focus on "bully breeds" for what the media portrays them as and not for what their breed accomplished. Their are more dangerous dogs out there.

German Shepard's are trained to protect which could lead to kill, no body wants to ban or muzzle them. Or how about herding dogs, i.e. Collies. They bite. Still nobody cares because nobody knows about that. Learn about a breed before you make any decisions.

A dog is only as dangerous as it's handler allows it to be. There is no relation to the breed of a dog and it's aggression. A chihuahua could be more dangerous than a rotweiler.

Most aggressive dogs are either:

Fear biters; they are not socialized well and do not know how to react in public.

Out of control; the owner/handler refuses to scold the dog and train it in any way.

Abused; the dog is either hungry and/or in pain and therefore shows aggression.

Such aggressive dogs should not be allowed in public at all- forget a muzzle. A muzzled dog can still jump on people, knock people of their feet, scratch people, etc.

Hope this helps

I think any dog that is known to bite people should be muzzled along with any dog known to attack other dogs. And most of the latter are smaller dogs, my dobie has been bitten by more than a couple jack russels among other breeds. A lot of dogs are nippy, do you think all those owners are going to muzzle their 15lb dog? Doubt it. I understand that a rottie can cause more damage, but don't classify the entire breed as a "dangerous dog". It's up to the owner whether the dog is dangerous or not. Just because it has the ability to inflict more damage than another breed doesn't mean it should be classified as a dangerous dog. I don't think anyone would say a st bernard is dangerous, but they could do damage if they chose to.

These dogs don't run around like crazy just wanting to bite somebody!
It all comes down to the owner being responsible in training the dog of any breed, and controlling the animal in public.
I do own a Rottweiler and take her for a walk (we live in the country) every morning. I don't have her muzzled but I do have a sturdy leash.

Dangerous dogs, and potentially dangerous dogs should be muzzled in public. It's not shameful and it shows respect to others. Hopefully their owners would have enough common sense to do this.
However, I don't think all Rottweilers should be muzzled, nor do I support any breed specific laws or rules. I know Rotties and Dobermans who are certified therapy dogs. They'd never harm anybody and they don't need muzzles.

ANY dog that is prone to aggressive behavior towards people or other animals should be muzzled in public. Even when walked on a leash, free roaming dogs and kids can be close before you know it. I would never generalize whole breeds. There are rotties that are very gentle and friendly and have no need for a muzzle.

Ignorant people make bad dogs. You cannot group ALL rotts/pits etc into one group, it's just stupid. Punish the DEED not the breed.

There are many people who are RESPONSIBLE pet owners, their dogs do not need to be punished for what a few have done.

I grew up with Rotts, and they are not all killers/attack dogs! Most are loving, family dogs.

When I hear people say they want to group ALL rotts/pits into one dangerous group and banish them from the planet... I think of someone else who had the same idea....Hitler.

Dogs most likely to bite (Ranked by the CDC) Keep in mind small dog bites are RARELY reported.

German shepherds
Huskies
Alaskan malamutes
Doberman pinschers
Chows
Great Danes
Saint Bernards
Akitas
Pit bulls
Rottweilers

Yet you don't see people trying to ban chows or Akitas do you?

I am a nurse and have seen pits and rotts as good therapy and search and rescue dogs.... You NEVER see these dogs make the news, the media likes negativity, And they are going to single handedly be the death of these wonderful breeds because of the spin they put on it.

NO no no.... those rotties in England were raised to be viscious guard dogs. The bad owners should be muzzled!! If rotties and pits get muzzle laws, the wackos of the world will turn to another breed. Before you know it, we will be muzzling dobermans, german shepherds, labs, etc etc.... what REALLY needs to happen is that breeders need to screen better before selling their pups. But they can only do so much too. The problem is the people, not the dogs.

Any dogs that are dangerous should be muzzled in public. I have 2 rottweilers and they are great in public and there is no need to muzzle them, but some dogs, and not only rotties and pit bulls need to be muzzled. It all depends how they are raised and if the show signs of aggression to other people or animals.
