More to the point, what does it MEAN to be in the image of God?
What's God like? To BE God, He must be the following:
1.Infinite. Nothing can be bigger than God or that bigger thing would be God.
2. Eternal. Without beginning or end. If something was older, it would be God, by definition.
3. Omnipotent. If He couldn't do anything He jolly wanted to do, then the thing that He couldn't do would be more powerful than Him and He wouldn't be God.
4. Omniscient. If He doesn't know everything, then there's something that can keep Him in the dark and that something would be God instead.
If we are in His image, what does that mean for us?
1. We are larger than we know. Not physically, but spiritually.
2. We are immortal. Although we had a beginning, we have no end.
3. We are very powerful in what we can do and getting more powerful every century.
4. We are highly intelligent. We can know a lot more than we choose to know now.
Are we living up to our full potential as beings in His image? C'mon! Not even close. Does that absolve us of the obligation to keep trying? Not even a little bit.

What is says about God is that he is complex and sublime.
Have you studied anatomy at all? Do you know of what the human body is made, and how its systems coexist with one another and interact with that which is introduced inside of them from the outside? Does it at all interest you that flesh has the ability to repair itself? If you begin looking at the myriad systems of which the body is comprised, you begin to have a little insight into the genius of the engineer. But not only did God engineer these systems, he breathed into them and made them to live.
He also infused flesh with a mind, a heart, and a soul. Know ye anything of love, justice, honor, courage...? Has your heart ever leapt up? Have you ever known anything that "came from nowhere," that settled into your being with a certainty and exactitude that you stood in awe? Have you ever risked your life so that another may live? Have you had the experience of loving honesty so much that you spoke the truth although the consequences appeared to be those that would harm you?
Get to know the body, the heart, the mind, and the soul a little more thoroughly, and then ask your question again.

The original man was made in God's image. We are the result of the poor choices made by Adam and his descendants. Had Adam not allowed sin to enter into the world, we would now have spread beyond this planet, to the other planets in the universe.

in His image ...[not appearance] ... a three-part being, body, soul, and spirit ... and God is a three-part being also. Also, that we have rational thought (at least sometimes), etc.
But when God took upon Himself "flesh" (St. John 1:14) then He did become as a man and looked like a man.
The real sadness, though, is that originally God made mankind in His image ... and saw that it was "very good". Ever since, mankind h as been trying to make God in their image.

I've always understood this to mean spiritually, not actually. When I brought this up to a friend, an LDS, he said that they believe this literally, that God is a man of flesh and bone. So, I guess that being made in God's image means different things to different followers of different faiths.

It means, God looks like a man. Maybe like your dad. He has two eyes, a nose a mouth two arms. And no His arms are not all hairy and long so his knuckles scrape the floor. If He was then we would look like that. You might also be asking does God behave like man? No. God is completely sinless. He is unable to sin. We were created in his IMAGE alone. The rest we did all by ourselves.

God was made in man's image, and as each person has their own unique imagination, so too will be their own depiction of God.

it has a lot to say about god ,first it is known that we are his children and should be in obedience to his commandments,a creator that has made the earth unlike any other planet for us to inhabit, another sex so that we can enjoy him or her without reserve and as much as our eyes can see we marvel at the paradise in which we live, most of what we have and experience today is taken for granted blatantly ,you can learn more from the watchtower society in Brooklyn new york, they have the most accurate accounts about god ,thanks for the question.

God has one heck of an imagination & sense of humor.
Also, we cannot even imagine the love & mercy it takes to put up with our nonsense. God is an AWSOME God.
