I used to work for a photography lab back in high school, I will be getting married next year and because of my experience there I will not use them. You have to remember that it's not only the price of the cameras, but the price of developing the film. It's great to get some of those candid shots, but most of the pictures on the cameras aren't usable. I would say out of a whole role we would get 3 or 4 shots that were actually something you would want to see. Those cameras work great if you are 3 feet away from the person you're trying to shoot, but most people sit at the table and shoot at the dance floor or the next table or the cake cutting and those don't come out because the flash doesn't go more then a few feet.
I would suggest putting someone to work on taking candid shots with a digital camera, maybe a groomsmen or bridesmaid or family member, have two people do it for an hour each and you have 2 hours worth of shots. You could even contact your local high school or community college and see if any photo student would be willing to come shoot for free, they need the experience and you want the photos. Let them use a camera that belongs to you a close friend or family member to ensure you get all the photos. If they are all digital you can upload them and chose which ones you want to print rather then printing them all, you can ever do some touch-ups. In the long run this will save you money and you'll have some great photos.
Also, which ever way you go, check out the different options with paper, colors and borders. The lab I worked at had matte paper which is great for avoiding fingerprints and we could print in black & white and sepia, the borders available were amazing and could really make an album look professionally done.
Good Luck!

Sure it is worth it, IF you get them all back.
Sometimes people will take pictures and take the camera home with them. (what a Bummer)
Sometimes they take pictures that are not worth keeping and sometimes they dont even bother taking pictures.
If you decide to have cameras at the tables, you should have a separate note inserted into the invitation stating that cameras are being provided at the tables specifically for the Brides Album with a request for the guests to take pictures that they think the Bride would want to keep and return the camera to the Brides Parents or leave them on the table.
You need to understand that many people take their own cameras and will not have time to use the ones provided but will often make an extra effort to use them if requested to do so in the invitation. And i am sure if they take pictures with their own cameras that they would be willing to give you a copy.
I have been to many weddings in my life and personnally do not use the ones provided. I take my own and when i get home i put the pictures i have taken on a CD and give a copy to the Bride and Groom, both sets of parents and anyone else that requests it. I often mix pictures and movie clips on the CD because my camera does both and i make sure that all the pictures are acceptable in both Quality and taste. (No pictures of the little brother mooning Aunt May just because i think it is funny) etc.
although i may keep them for myself.

I went to a wedding once where we were provided with the single use digital cameras, each place setting had one and we were all invited to take whatever pictures we wanted, and they had an address label on the back of the camera on where to send the pictures once they were developed. I snapped away and kept some copies for myself and sent the copies to the couple. They sent a thank you note a few weeks later which was really nice of them (it was hand written, not typed out). I don't know where they got it (the cameras) but I think they were pretty pleased with the results on what they got out of the money that they spent. Have a great wedding, and congratulations!

I used some 35mm cameras that I found at Job Lots for $2.99. If you can find some with Auto flash for cheap use those as a lot of people don't remember to use the flash. The pictures I got were great, a lot of different parts of the reception and of people that I didn't really get a chance to see due to being busy. I sent mine in through snapfish so i got back 1 set of prints & negatives and a copy on their website. I thought it was great. I had 30 tables so just put a camera on every other one to save some money. Good Luck :)

I really like the cameras at each table idea. I've been to a ton of weddings that had this... However, I did notice that mostly we took picture of the people at our table and that was like the same 10 people in 24 pictures. Maybe designating particular people to take pictures...or having a few cameras and having a sticker on the back like pass this to tables 7, 8, & 9...just an idea. It a nice gesture cause you will get pictures from your wedding you wouldn't have gotten ordinarily. Good Luck!

This idea is good cause you dont have to necessarily pay the photographer to stay through the reception and if you can get the cameras at a decent price then yeah its good. But then you also have to think of the developing costs. You obvi. want to develop them soon after the wedding but # 3.99 per camera cost you are paying double that to get it developed. That inclludeds all the blank and wasted pics people may take by accident and such.. But hey if you have the money to blow like that then yes its a good idea for you.

I have 2 sisters who both got married in the last 2 years 1 had cameras one did not. Advantages you get to see what other people viewed important about your wedding. Dis advantages all the money it cost to develop the pics and like 1/4 of them were yucky!!! Hope that helps. If you decide to go with it check ebay. They run some great camera deals for wedding.s

I have no idea if that's a good deal as I've not priced cameras in a while and have no idea what make & model they're selling.
I will say we got single-use cameras for our wedding. Came in really handy when the professional photographer left with the mistaken impression we were done with him.
Giving guests cameras is a great way to capture lots of special candid moments and multiple angles of the big ones.

Yes, I had them at my wedding and to honest I had some wonderful shots that I would not have had if I didn't have the cameras on the tables. However you need to let people know to take pic's of there tables and leave the cameras behind.

My cousin used these at his wedding. My sister & I took pics then collected all the cameras that were used up and had them developed while they were on their honeymoon. When the newlyweds got back, the pics were waiting for them. BUT, we told my aunt what was going on since she was collecting the cameras & was going to be about a dozen short.
I would tell you that if you have the ability to do it, then do so! You WILL get a lot of shots that are funny, sweet and outright weird. But, it is worth it.
