Kidney infections can cause pain in the abdomen and in the lower back. A kidney infection may or may not cause pain during urination. Usually pain during urination is caused from a bladder or urinary tract infection. Kidney infections cause pain in the lower back, tenderness in lower back in area of kidneys, left untreated, back can actually be reddened in that area and hot to touch. Kidney infections also cause fever, nausea, and lower production of urine. Some infections grow slowly and at times they can hit you all at once. So, if your back is hurting and you have a fever, nausea, vomiting, or reduced need to urinate, you need to see a doctor as soon as possible.
