Yes. You can feel in in your lower back on one or both sides depending on which kidney is infected. Other symptoms include: severe abdominal pain (occurs occasionally), fever, chills, warm/flushed skin, nausea and vomiting, fatigue, general ill feeling, painful and/or frequent urination, cloudy or abnormal urine color, blood in the urine, foul or strong urine odor. If you suspect a kidney infection, please seek medical attention ASAP to prevent further complications. Simple antibiotics are all that is needed for treatment.

Kidney infections can cause pain in the abdomen and in the lower back. A kidney infection may or may not cause pain during urination. Usually pain during urination is caused from a bladder or urinary tract infection. Kidney infections cause pain in the lower back, tenderness in lower back in area of kidneys, left untreated, back can actually be reddened in that area and hot to touch. Kidney infections also cause fever, nausea, and lower production of urine. Some infections grow slowly and at times they can hit you all at once. So, if your back is hurting and you have a fever, nausea, vomiting, or reduced need to urinate, you need to see a doctor as soon as possible.
