yes you can make them or buy them. Just put some bread in the oven to dry it out and toast it. then rub the two pieces of (now) toast together and you got bread crumbs!

Both. If I buy them I usually get the Progresso Brand. It comes in an Italian Style blend which is already seasoned with parsley, salt, onion powder and garlic. That is a good kind to use for savory things like veal parmesan or cube steaks. I get the regular blend for a non spicy recipe.

If I have some dried out french bread, then I put it through the food processer for about a minute and then measure out what I need and keep the remaining bread crumbs in a ziplock baggie. That way I have some on hand for my next cooking adventure!

You can make your own bread crumbs out of bread that you have left go stale and hard. You can then place them between two cloths and use something like a rolling pin or other hard object to crush the stale bread slices into crumbs. Then you can add your favorite seasonings to the crumbs. Or, just go to the store and buy them if you don't want to go to the trouble of making your own.

Make them yourself, of course. Just take some bread, like the crusts if you don't eat the crusts, and put them on a pan. When you use the oven to cook something, put the pan with the bread in afterwards while the oven is cooling down and the hot air will dry the bread. Then just put the bread in a blender and, voila!, you have perfect breadcrumbs.

You can do it either way. Bread crumbs are relatively cheap to buy and certainly much less messy I can never make bread crumbs without a certain amount of them spilling. If you make them yourself, you'll have cleanup.
You can also add soya powder or rolled oats to bread crumbs to up the nutritional value.

It's way cheaper to make them yourself. If you have no stale bread to dry out, and are in a pinch, use soda crackers. The other day, I had no crumbs, no crackers, so I used crushed Special K mixed with ground walnuts to coat chicken pieces.

You can do both, Rachael Ray has a good recipe in one of her cook books, though i'm at work right now and can't remember for the life of me which one it is in for bread crumbs.....but if you have any of them, look through them. =) Have fun!

I always toast some bread, let it cool and then zip it in the food processor. You can season them up in there and have any seasoning you want... Best way to do it.
