My sister in Law is due to have her second child (a girl) in 3 weeks. I wanted to get her son a present that makes her son feel important as a big brother, beyond the obvious big brother shirt is there any other ideas that anyone has?

Thats a rude thing to say my portlandblue,.... my sister in law is not having any problems, I thought why wouldnt she welcome attempts from other family members as well to make her son feel special. I thought she might appreciate that.

A responsibility badge to pin on him to show him that he is there to take care of his little sis when the parents cant take care of her. He would be the big man in charge!

Anything works. My daughter got a new outfit and a coloring book and new crayons when my youngest was born. She also got a stuffed animal and some of the "I love my baby sister" or "I'm a big sister" things. I think anything that says "You are special too" would be perfectly fine. A puzzle is also a good idea, since when the baby is napping, mommy or daddy can help the big brother put it together for a little time with just him and his mommy or daddy.

Books!!!!!! There is no greater gift for a big brother to give than knowledge.it can be a simple picture book, color book, or educational book depending on the age of the boy. If a older sibling feels like they can teach their younger sibling something, it will help everyone in the house. I speak from experience!

Something that he loves...if he's into trains, get him a new engine or something. Try to keep it about him and not about him becoming a big brother. Then maybe something else that goes along with being a big brother. Maybe you could take him shopping and let him pick something out for himself and for the baby then let him wrap it and give it her when she's born.

give him something so he can make the new baby something. at most craft stores they have wonderful set of stuff you have to make yourself.
take him out and ask him what he would like to give the baby and let him pick something out for it. so it could be a big brother gift just from him.
ask him to write the baby a letter ( depending on how old he is, you write it ) and have him tell her all the wonderful stuff the 2 of them can do together. or about a promise he can make to her about ways a big brother can help with.

Offer to babysit when the new baby is a bit older so your sister in law can spend some one on one time with her son.

I would get him a frame to put his first picture of him and his new sister in....she is gonna amaze you at how she will reel him in. He is gonna love her and being a big brother too. A picture will emphasize the bond both ways. Also -- Maybe a night out with his auntie will help him to remember that he is still number one with you.

I actually just saw this on our local hospital website:
And be sure to stop at the desk and ask for the "I'm a big brother!" and "I'm a big sister!" pins for siblings!

I'd say not the shirt...he's had enough new baby shoved on him.....choose something for him and only him.........something age appropriate for him that does not involve the baby.
