Jesus Camp is consistent with the agenda of Dominionists, which I've been harping on for some time. Be afraid... be VERY afraid. Christian 'Dominionists' (Reconstructionalists, Theonomists) have largely usurped the local level political apparatus of the Republican Party, and are engaged in a sub rosa process to politically motivate moderate Christians under the false cover of religious issues such as morality and family values, under cover of front organizations like the Christian Coalition, the American Family Association and the Promise Keepers. The goal is nothing less than the takeover of all elective offices in the USA.
Their doctrine comes from the Bible, starting with the term 'dominion' at Genesis 1:28... “And God said unto them, [Adam and Eve] Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have DOMINION… over every living thing.” They interpret DOMINION as: “... a supremacy in determining and directing the actions of others or in governing politically, socially, or personally.”
They want to remake the USA as a theocracy... and they are succeeding.
Its most common form, Dominionism, represents one of the most extreme forms of Fundamentalist Christianity thought. Its followers, called Dominionists, are attempting to convert the laws of United States so that they match those of the Hebrew Scriptures. They intend to achieve this by using the freedom of religion in the US to train a generation of children via home-schooling and in private Christian religious schools. See: JESUS CAMP http://www.apple.com/trailers/magnolia/jesuscamp/trailer/ Later, their graduates will be charged with the responsibility of creating a new Bible-based political, religious and social order. One of the first tasks of this order will be to eliminate religious choice and freedom. Their eventual goal is to achieve the "Kingdom of God" in which much of the world is converted to Christianity. They feel that the power of God's word will bring about this conversion. No armed force or insurrection will be needed; in fact, they believe that there will be little opposition to their plan. People will willingly accept it. All that needs to be done is to properly explain it to them.
All religious organizations, congregations etc. other than strictly Fundamentalist Christianity would be suppressed. Nonconforming Evangelical, main line and liberal Christian religious institutions would no longer be allowed to hold services, organize, proselytize, etc. Society would revert to the laws and punishments of the Hebrew Scriptures. Any person who advocated or practiced other religious beliefs outside of their home would be tried for idolatry and executed. Blasphemy, adultery and homosexual behavior would be criminalized; those found guilty would also be executed. There are two conservative Christian pastors in Texas who have advocated the execution of all Wiccans. Ralph Reed, the executive director of the conservative public policy group the Christian Coalition has criticized Reconstructionism as "an authoritarian ideology that threatens the most basic civil liberties of a free and democratic society."
By failing to openly confront this insidious agenda, we have sown the seeds of our own destruction, while these religious wing-nuts are paving the way to Armageddon with gleeful anticipation.

I see nowhere in this article that these children are being forced to do anything. I hear they are praying and compassionate. I happen to agree with this concept, that the world is taking our children for the biggest detour from truth that it can, any way it can. I guess, I would rather see a room full of children praying for our president, than another dead child on a street corner shot, or huffing some chemical, or giving oral sex away as though it were nothing, or disrespecting just about everyone and everything. I would rather see children with a purpose and a hope, than hopeless and aimless.
What have you done to give anything of value to a child lately, that will give them something of lasting hope. You honestly can not think that having a child pray is a problem, praying for someone and praying to someone are two diff things. Honoring and supporting your president, who is doing a job which not too many people want or would be any better at, is teaching respect and national integrity.

Pentecostalism is not my culture. And since it is not, I am not raising my children in that tradition. However, I've learned over the years to be careful in judging the religious and/or ethnic cultures of others. There's no one guaranteed right way to raise a child. If you are a pentecostal family, what are you supposed to do - send your kids to an English boarding school where they teach you the stiff upper lip? Probably not. Tolerance needs to mean tolerance - and not just tolerance for what you find familiar.
That said, the overt political aspect of a lot of American Christianity I think to be very unhealthy, spiritually. Religion should be about God, and leave Caesar W Bush's realm to Caesar. You can't be focused on Christ if you've focused elsewhere. Christian nationalism may seem as though it is an authentic form of spirituality to those participating in it because the word "Jesus" gets said a lot, but nobody should make this mistake - if your cares and devotions are with Caesar, then you are effectively placing your faith in Caesar.
Not Christ.

Yeah, this camp is a little extreme and is really feeding these kids lies and hatred. What really gets me is that they say they do this under the pretense that it will make the kids MORE UNDERSTANDING of others' views and religions in the future.
It seems almost like they're being forced to digest this information under threat of punishment. That clip of the girl screaming "NO MORE!! ... NO MOOOORE!!" [in regard to abortion]... she almost looks like she's in pain.

Part one) Every time I hear of this movie I get sick. How can these people do this to those poor children? They should be strung up. It also makes me fear for the future.
Part two) I totally agree with you. I'd like to see a good answer to that also.

How do I get to be a camp counselor? I'll go in there and teach those other camp counselors how to dodge baseball bats being swung at them. The hands on way.

Selnyk showed me that crap yesterday. It is aweful that people think it is O.K. to do that to their children. What issues those kids will have someday about their lost childhoods and odd parents. I hope they get good therapy, really.
