Lost huge amount in a few weeks..as soon as I started intergrating other foods back into my diet, the weight started creeping back. There is a maintenance system with Atkins tho...I also felt really ill for the first week and even after that never felt quite right and boy did I crave something sweet..good luck, it might work for you.

DIETS DON'T WORK!
If you cut any food group out, all you will do is crave it! That will make you feel crappy and you will want that food even more!
Loosing weight is no quick fix - If you go on the atkins diet or a super low cal diet etc you will put the weight back on after it...
You need to change the way you think about food in general. Put less on your plate (you can always go back for more if you still feel hungry), Chew your food more, Enjoy every mouthful, Stop when you FEEL full (it's not a crime to leave food on your plate!), Drink at least 2litres of water a day...
The reason I say that is bacause it takes about 10mins from eating to your brain registering it... If you eat slower it lets your brain catch up with your stomach...
The other MOST important thing to do is more exercise! - And doing a government advised "20min brisk walk" will not work!
Buy a rowing machine or something! I have tried "diets" all my life... never worked... I am now following the basic rules above and am also rowing 40mins EVERY DAY on my indoor rower(When I started I could only manage about 10mins and every week I do more and more)
So far in 4 weeks I have lost 10pounds ( I am trying for about 14 a month - some months will be better than others)... Yes it's slower than crash dieting but I know that because I am changing my general thoughts and ideas towards food and exercise, I will keep the weight off.
Good luck and I really REALLY wouldn't go on anything like the Atkins diet...
The maths is simple!! Eat less + Do more = Weight Loss

Yes, it is good. Since going on Atkins I've lost 40 lbs so far and my health has improved drastically.
The weight came off quickly at first, but the loss has slowed down since. Doesn't matter to me, as long as it continues to go down. Even if I wasn't losing weight I'd continue Atkins because I feel it's so much healthier for me.
You aren't supposed to "go off" Atkins, you are meant to follow it for life.
If you want to try it, please get the book and read the plan so you fully understand it. It is not an "all the steak and bacon with butter you want" diet. Vegetables are and important part of Atkins, as is exercise. As you progress through the stages you add even more veggies, nuts, fruit, some dairy and some people can even add back grains. It's a question of finding out what's right for you and what your body can handle.

Although the atkins diet improved itself it still has too much saturated fat - I did it and it does work and at first you feel better cos it is ridding your cravings of carbs but after a few weeks you start to not feel great. I think the South Beach is better - it is similar and concentrates on good carbs and good fats. If you are a perfectionist then do Dr Rosedale's Rosedale diet. These all work but the latter 2 are much healthier and actually easier to keep up. The weight just falls off, your energy increases, your mind is sharper etc.

My mom did the Atkin's diet. Just like any other diet though, you have to change your lifestyle to see the results. She lost probably 30 pounds from it and has kept it off. She went down several dress sizes and is very pleased with the results. She exercises several times per week and monitors what she eats but no longer follows the strict rules of the diet.

the aktins diet makes yr breath smell really bad, it also is a DIET in the sense that when you do it you will lose weight then as soon as you stop you'll put it back on. The best thing i suggest for losing weight is to cut all processed carbohydrates and concentrated sugars out of you diet. That means white bread. rice, white pasta and large amounts of potateos. And no snacking on sweets and crisps, i find if you are hungry between meals eat as much fruit and veg as you like. Try carrots chopped up and dipped in humus. Not as bad as it sounds. Oh a closing though the guy who invented the aktins diet died of a mass heart attack at a really early age so can't be to healthy!!!!

Lots of people swear by the Atkins diet. I tried it and I felt so horribly ill and weak and my breath was REALLY stinky my husband wouldn't come near me! so I can't recommend it at all. I only tried it for about a week so maybe if I had stuck with it things would have got better :-/

Please don't do this. Any kind of diet that you are not put on by your doctor is not going to work and could very possibly end up causing long term health problems or even death.
We are meant to eat all foods not just protien. Protien can harm in large quantities. If you really want to lose weight see your GP and follow his advise and then get to the gym. I recommend Curves if you are a lady because it is by and for women and lots of fun and takes only 30 minutes out of your day.

Pullay,
Dr Atkins was 72. Dying at that age is sad but is hardly 'premature' by any standards. Especially when you consider HOW he died. He slipped on ice, According to his death certificate, the "immediate cause" of Atkins's death last April was "blunt impact injury of head with epidural hematoma." He was critically injured when he struck his head in a fall on an icy Manhattan street.

Hi Becky
I tried this a few years ago, I don't recall losing much weight but I do remember feeling very ill. I had abdominal pains and my legs felt so heavy I could hardly walk, therefore I don't recomend this at all. Slimmers World is possibly the best slimming club if you love your food :)
Good Luck
