Big Mama and Me Again are right. Currently there is no known long
term health hazards (including memory loss), EXCEPT possible
vision problems.
Aspartame (Nutra Sweet= marketed name) was discovered by accident in the 70's. A lab tech was disposing of some non toxic
compounds and spilled some on his gloves. Knowing that it wasn't harmful, he licked it off and found that it was sweet tasting! After more tests were run, it was found that the compound stimulated a
different part of the taste buds into thinking aspartame was sweet.
It was then rushed through FDA approval faster than ANYTHING before (weeks instead of the standard years!). In the 80's (after numerous reports of vision problems), it was found that when heated or used in hot foods/beverages- it broke down
and produced chemicals that were already known to damage the
retina! Lawsuits were filed- all have been settled quietly....
I hope this helps and warns you......

You lose your memory as you age. Some people it happens to younger than the average. I've always had weak short term memory for as long as I can remember. The aspartame could have just aided the inevitable to happen sooner. There is no way to know for sure if you will recover you memory or if it is even from aspartame. I wouldn't worry about it. I didn't start using artificial sweeteners until almost 2 years ago when Splenda came out. I couldn't tolerate aspartame until recently because it gave me headaches and the aftertaste wasn't appealing. I never went for saccharin because the first time I tasted something with it I knew it wasn't for me. That yucky bitter nasty long lingering after taste. I avoided things with sugar or substitutes. No soda and most baked goods except whole wheat/grain breads.

It can cause memory loss as well as a lot of other problems. Your best bet it to stop using it. Most of the artificial sweeteners are not good for you. They are all a bunch of chemicals that give you sweetness for your food but in the long run can harm you. I would recommend checking out this web site. mercola.com. It has a lot of helpful information about Aspartame as well as other sweeteners. I personally use stevia because it is all natural but some don't like the taste.

It hasnt been linked to memory loss but it has been linked to all other sorts of bad stuff .I
Its not the aspartame per se it is when it beaks down to other derivatives
this break ocurs during poor storage of the product like drinks been stored at higher temperatures
When it breals down the benzene ring part of it does the damage free radicles and all that
Just take sugar and brush your teeth its much better for ya

there are always natural hippie types who claim it causes EVERYTHING. i don't like drinking it, 'cause i still think in 20 years or whatever they will say "oops, it causes X" but, on the other hand, i like to be thin & the whole world drinks it.
i've never heard of memory issue but i highly doubt it. there are many things (hormones, etc.) that can affect memory. maybe you should write down all the symptoms you can think of that you have & see MD, maybe they fit together w/ some other issue.
good luck.

you can counter any memory loss by eating apples, 'berries, oranges, red peppers, and spinach (without e Coli). Substitute Splenda in soda which you need to keep at 12 oz per day maximum! Enjoy!

Artificial sweeteners are poisonous and can kill you early. Aspartame is one of the most dangerous. It causes brain dis-function but most of all causes internal bleeding to the stomach. It Also raises your blood pressure. AVOID IT. Never drink diet drinks or chew gum as they cause most aspartame intake. allways use sugar. It doesn't kill you.

If you want a natural no-calorie sweetener, try Stevia. It has a slightly different taste but then again so does aspartame....
