Why do guys dress like they been sitting around the house all day when they meet for a date?

It seems like most of the men I meet for the first time on a date show up in shorts, jeans, or some sloppy pants and a tshirt or whatever they threw on. Ugly tennis shoes, etc. Whatever happened to making a good impression on your first date?

As far as dressing sloppy to be honest and real, I really doubt that because I guy dresses like a slob, he is any more honest than the other

Perhaps it has something to do with the type of men you are meeting up with? but it may just be a sign of modern day America i am sorry to say.

I am in my thirties and married but not so over the hill as to be out of touch: many of my old chums are still "out there" in singles land and i can say that all of them are of the jacket and tie persuasion... but then they are all Brits like me (Grammar school and old family manners).

I spend so much of my time stateside that often i don't see the differences that exist... But, having returned to UK last week they are now both visible and more alarming. I had overlooked the small fact that Americans have forgotten how to dress! My wife teaches in a county high school on the west coast, the kids for the most part look like tramps! perhaps one in twenty look smart and casual... the rest? Its the norm now i am afraid... short of a time machine you are going to struggle to find a well dressed man out of office hours!

The US man seems to fall into two distinct categories: Redneck or City-Boy. The first is a slob at home and at work while the second is a slob at home and relatively sharp in the office... note that neither looks good at home!

regretably the typical US woman is very nearly as bad.....

I always feel over-dressed stateside, but then my wife (an American) always looks like she has just walked off a cat walk (so we tend to stand out, and be glared at) ...unlike ( I am sorry to say) most of her contemporys and the slightly younger generation... we go to dinner at a $100 perperson eatery and the couple to our left are in jeans and T's... to our right a young couple combats so baggy that you could park a Harley in each leg... GO FIGURE! The Waiters are the only men in the place dressed for dinner!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My advice is to always let your date KNOW if you expect a collar and tie or a jacket, when you are still in the chatting stage of the relationship (pre-date) make sure you know what he likes to wear... for instance the man with only one tie in his wardrobe is most likely not right for you, SO DONT GO OUT WITH HIM!

and finaly,

allways make a point to avoid anyone in sandals and with a thousand yards of fabric about each leg.

Girls are the only ones that seemed to care about first impressions. Guys tend to be more on the if you don't like this then you can go away. You may be able to find someone that is willing to dress-up for you, but you really need to look hard these days.

To all who are answering that they're just being honest and "casual" (or making other excuses), let them put their money where their mouths are and go for a job interview dressed like that.
