Honestly; Just go to court and pay whatever the fine is and be done with it. If you hire a legal counsel that will cost you, and if you are found guilty anyway, you are out that much money. It is rare anyone gets out of a speeding ticket, but if they impounded your car, you were hauling A-S!! If you were guilty of the speeding then you would be better to ask for mercy of the court, and plead guilty. If You think you have a chance of beating it in court then hire a legal counsel, but if not forget the translator!! All he will do is take more of your money and do nothing you can't do on your own. Good Luck!

I was under the impression that French police usually do a spot fine thing and demand cash at the roadside. If you couldn't pay then I would then expect them to impound your car. They wouldn't impound your car without a good reason, which leads me to conclude you were probably uninsured as well and have racked up a whole host of motoring offences in addition to the speeding thing. If you were really doing 225kph and the fuzz have proof then your defence is doomed right from the start - in the UK a conviction at this kind of speed usually results in an automatic driving ban. If you're not a French citizen and don't live in France, I'm not exactly sure how any court decision there would affect your licence in your home country - hence why they traffic police across Europe almost always take cash in lieu of a court appearance.
My advice would be let them have the car, crush it or whatever, and quietly skip the country and never visit France or drive abroad again. In fact, you should probably never drive again at all full stop. You are clearly a maniac who is not only a danger to yourself, but to the public at large.
If you do plan on attending court, get yourself a French speaking lawyer, plead guilty and throw yourself upon the mercy of the judge. Pack yourself a briefcase with a few thousand pounds worth of Euros and expect to kiss goodbye to it. You got caught bang to rights, and I wouldn't expect any sympathy from your lawyer, the French legal system or anyone here on Yahoo.
To put it bluntly, you're stuffed!!

If your car isn't worth much let them have it and don't show up(although a car that can go 225 kph does sound worth something). There's no way they can force you to pay up If you skip trail or don't pay your fine they can't do a damn thing to you. I've gotten more than one speeding ticket in France And I never even recieved a fine(even when drivin cars with a French plate). I must say I've never been caught at such excessive speed or caught in the act as you have. I'll tell you my heftiest speeding offence in France was 175 kph where I was allowed 110 and I still didn't get a fine. Mind you me(Belgian) and an Italian friend were driving a Spanish licensed car near Bordeaux at that time. I can only imagine the feeling the cops got when they heard that story. How do you process such a ticket

Say you are American. Say you forgot about the kph and was watching the MPH instead. If that doesn't work go to the local car impound and do a dukes of hazzard and drive until Ol' Rosco Peppe Le Pu crashes his VW bug in the local coffe shop! Come on flash lets get the hell out of here! Keek Keek Keek!

unless I am wrong you were going at 139 mph - a totally selfish thing to do and definately taking the pi*s so you (hopefully) won't be getting your car back and you will get a fat fine, you might escape a short stint in prison and you would be lucky to drive again soon. Even if you say you were watching the mph instead of the kph you would still be doing about twice the national speed limit.

I'm afraid all the prophets of doom are right.
Sorry, but I have to agree that you better kiss your car and France goodbye, or be prepared for a very hefty fine and a driving ban for France.
If the court insists on your having a translator, they will make you pay for him/her, but they might not if you admit everything and have a half-ways decent knowledge of French.

If you were going at 'that speed,' then it serves you right.
No, you don't need 'Legal Advice.' But 'Psychiatric Advice' would be of more use to you.
Defence!
Plead 'Stupidity, aggravated by arrogance which was exacerbated by indifference to the safety of ALL other road users.' Then take your just deserves like the Hero you are.
Obviously, you just love it when a plan comes together.

I'm sure the court will have to supply a translator to give you a fair trial.
Mind you 140MPH good going that mate. Expect to lose your licence for 12 months or more at best.
Big fine and possibly jail depending on French law.
