You either get an "e-ticket" which is just a paper you print out online or you can have a ticket mailed to you.

You get an e-ticket. It's all electronic, no paper.

When you check-in for your flight, you can either scan your passport or scan any credit card with your name on it, and you will be able to print your boarding passes. You can also check-in online using your computer and print your boarding pass before going to the airport. Just bring your ID (if flight is within the US) or your passport and you'll be fine.

Airlines are trying to get rid of paper tickets. If you insist on getting one, you will need to call the airline and book the tickets via telephone and ask for a paper ticket. However, when you book through the phone, there is usually a $10 surcharge added on.

in the US, you don't receive a paper ticket, you receive what is called an "E-ticket" or electronic ticket, you actually get your boarding pass at the ticket counter of the airport with proper identification, or sometimes you can print your boarding pass prior to leaving for the airport

You print out the Itinerary. You don't really need it though, when you check in at the airport, you give them your passport or ID, they print the ticket there. I am in Canada too. they have never asked to see my print out.
