We visited York earlier this year and enjoyed it so much we're going back in 4 weeks time for a long weekend. Last time we visited Eden Camp, York Museum, Jorvik and the City walls and shopping area.

Does anyone have any other suggestions or recomendations for 2 adults with 2 children (10&8yrs).

Sensible answers please, unless they are really, I mean really funny!

I've been to York and I enjoyed York dungeons, The Shambles. Then there's the railway museum (where they have got the rocket) and the guided bus tour is really good. You will see where Dick Turpin is buried.
The dungeons is quite gruesome so I don't know if your kids would like it. I wouldn't take mine down there but they are younger only 6 and 3.
Have a look at this website and have a great time.

All of the places you mentioned are worth another look, but you should also try the Railway Museum. The York Minster is also great to look round and they do audio tours too, I think there is a kids version. Try going down the Shambles as well, there's lots of strange little shops down there. I'd lived in York for two years before I learnt my way round them.

There are York tour buses which will take you round the city. There is also a Ghost walk in the evenings which is fantastic and great fun, (I think they start at about 7 or 8 so shouldn't be too late for the kids). The only other thing I can think of is the York Dungeon.

Hope you have a fun trip.
