You really need a clean break. This means no contact. Four years is a long time to be in a relationship. You're probably lonely, and she temporarily fills the void. You just have to be flat out honest and explain continuing contact with her is hurting you. How hurt will you be if you're that close to her and she starts seeing another guy? The feelings for her will be there for awhile, but keeping her around isn't going to make them better.

As a fellow Irishman I have to tell you, stop sleeping with her. Sex is easy man. Go to a bar and pick up a woman for a 'no-strings' night. But with your ex, there are always strings attached. You know how you feel afterwards: the broken heart, the depression. Don't do it. Let her go and take the high road out. I know it's hard, and easier said than done, but this is what needs to be done, and you know it.
Be Strong..

Tell her to get lost.. You don't need the emotional baggage in your life and all that you need is a girl that will take care of your needs as well as you being able to take care of hers. I know that there are still feeling involved but would you rather lie to yourself and keep feeling this way or do you want to feel great about yourself. Yes, it will take time to heal if you have to stay single for a while. I have been single by choice for almost two years now and I know myself better than I ever did before and I know that I wouldn't put myself in the same position as before. Maybe time is all that you need.

First, you have to stop having sex with her. If you do not one of you are going to start to have strong feelings again and somebody is going to get hurt. Sex to me is hard to have without emotional, so by being sexually active you are playing with emotions.
For now, you probably should not even be friends. Not until you have both had time to move on, and get totally over the relationship, where as neither of you have any emotional feelings left for each other.
It might be hard to just stop talking but you have to. It will be best for the both of you. You can start your life again, and find out what you want for yourself.

Well I think you know the answer to this and don't need strangers to tell you. Stop meeting/having sex with her. Your feelings are never going to die if you are still seeing her.

One of these days she will find someone else to have sex with if not already. How many times are you going to have your heart broken before she ends it permanently. You are the one allowing your heart to be broken.

Its never going to officially end while the both of you continue to hook up...if you really do want to end it, i suggest that you just tell her that you don't want to have contact any longer.
