It is ok to allow kids to use gadgets that are age appropriate. So they can use play stations and game boys. Also mobile phones after a certain age. It is important, however, to maintain control. So, access to such gadgets is given with a few checks - ration the usage so that studies are not affected. Monitor the type of games being played - there are a number of playstation CDs that come with R ratings. Mobile phones have become a neccessity - but set limits on usage. If the bill exceeds prescribed limits, deduct the amount from their pocket money. Computers and the internet are essentials today but monitor the sites being visited. If neccessary, install a Net Nanny software. Kids need space to grow, but they also need their limits set clearly.

They must have *controlled* access to gadgets. Especially mobile phones - and that too only after a certain age.

no. in a controlled manner. i would banned them from mobile phones, and allow video games in moderation, there is a world outside, there is nature, they should be outside playing...but kids do not do that anymore...they think they way too cool.
