Seriously, does it really matter? We find ways to cope with the seemingly impossible permanence of a loved one leaving us in death. If this works for you mom and gives her comfort, then I would support it.
Would we Christians say there are ghosts? Maybe our loved ones do communicate with us from Heaven, but I am not sure they play with the lights in our houses.
Blessings and prayers for your mom and her grief

The Bible holds out the hope of the resurrection, for deceased love ones..
John 5:28,29 Do not marvel at this, the time is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice, and come out.
Anyone who might pretend to be a dead person, is a demon, as they try to perpetuate the lie. ...that was told Eve,..
"you will not die, but you will be like God."
Do not get involved with this stuff, it is against Jehovah and Jesus.

The Bible warns of this. Deceased persons don't go around contacting us. But familiar spirits (demons) can. Most likely though the flickering lights are caused by an electrical problem... a lose connection.

I have never had anything like that happen to me but many people see different thing...lights flickering...items moved in the house etc. I can not wait until I spend eternity in heaven and while I am there I want to ask if they sent me any signs.

Our bodies go into the ground to "sleep" and await the masters call. Our spirits go to be with Jesus. These are old sayings when you see lights flicker or hear strange sounds. I find myself thinking of them too, more or less out of old tales. Remember when the rich man went to suffer while Lazarus was in Abrahams busom? The rich man begged to be able to go and warn his family and the Angel of God told him no.

Good question:
For someone to come back and contact us - they would have to have powers like God - So I don't believe people come back as ghost and this is not what the Bible teaches.

YES my grandpa visits me and my mom , i know it's him . he comes to me when i relaxed , my house fills with a smell just like his house, my mom was in her backyard on the same day it happened to me and she was working and stopped and smelled the same smell he called out father , she thinks it means they need our prayers, i think it means he loves us and wants us to know he's ok and there is a heaven. i think when someone passes they try to let there loved ones know there ok, and alot of people are afraid to look for the signs..

LOL ... That's a good one...
Okay, here's mine --------------------------
A guy goes into a bar carrying a duck under his arm. He goes to the bartender and says, "I'll have two beers, please."
The bartender immediately stops what he's doing and says, "Get that trash out'a my tavern... we don't serve pigs in here."
The man with the duck says, "This isn't a pig - it's a duck."
The bartender, not missing a breath, responds, "Shut up pig.! Can't you see that I'm talkin' to a duck here?"
----------------------------
I just love a good joke, don't you?

i'm a christian, the bible does say dead people have no power to connect back to this world, God has full control. the bible also mention about demons & dark angels parading on earth & people perceive them as ghost or dead people.
