Do you think it is right to sell these so called Designer dogs?
Way back when they were muts and not worth anything.
Do you think they will go out of style?

Yes, as with all things these dogs will go out of style. There is some functionality in some of the breedings, I must admit, but these dogs should definately NOT be sold as "purebreds" and certainly not for the prices I've seen. 9 times out of 10 you can get just as good of a dog if not better at the shelter.

These so called designer dogs have been around forever. I don't think that they'll ever really go away. It's just that recently someone decided to give them the name designer breed, which makes it sound like all the owner really cares about is having a designer dog. As long as there are ppl out there with allergies, there will always be ppl out there wanting mixed breeds, that are more likely to be hypoallergenic. I had never even heard the term designer breed till I got onto Yahoo answers, I think theses dogs will always be there, but that the trend or idea of the dog be "designer" will go away. My feeling is that as long as the person is taking care of the dog, it shouldn't matter what kind of dog it is.

I dont care if its a purebreed with papers with a purebreed with papers, You can breed them and sell them as 'precious' or 'style' or a 'designer' and charge a billion dollars for them! If you want a cool dog, because you think mixed breeds are cool, why not go down to your local humane society, and pay a tenth of the price for a dog that has a better chance of being so much more healthy, happy, and obedient. If it's not recongized by akc its not a breed and worth nothing more than $50.00. I hate what people are trying to get money. And for anyone thinking about getting one of these 'cool' dogs, good luck because as a vet tech, when you put 2 different dogs together, you get double the problems, wether its health, behavioral, or attitude, it'll happen.

I don't like the whole "designer breed" moniker; these are mixed breed dogs. I do realize, though, that all dogs that we now consider to be purebreeds were once mixes, too.

And I really cringe at applying a monetary "worth" to a dog - especially when people say that a mutt is only worth $50 or is not worth as much as a purebreed. I adore my terrier mix. I may have gotten her for free, but she is worth a whole hell of a lot - more than I would ever actually pay to buy a dog.

It has always amazes me that people would spend so much for these designer dogs. For instance a labradoodle, half lab have poodle. They are trying to get the temperament of a lab but the non shedding of the poodle. Each pup looks different, the temperament could be from either parent and you could get the most god-awful coats! I have seen some really odd looking dogs. You never know what your going to end up with. Anyway you could spend $75 at the pound and get the same thing.

Heres just one site. You can see how different the dogs are.

No, I think once a thing like this takes hold, and records are kept, it's just a matter of time before they are recognized by the AKA. I also remember that the breeding and cross-breeding of "good hunting dogs" and "good watch dogs" is a thing that has been going on since I was a kid at least, and undoubtedly much earlier. That is probably how most of the current breeds were created, after all. Cross-breed until you get a couple (one each gender) that seems to carry what you're looking for, then breed them. Before you know it you have a reliable breed form, and AKA recognizes it.

They are still mutts. I got my "chorkie"☺ back in July from a rescue shelter. I only paid cost of having her spayed and her first shots. I would have never paid extra for such a dog.

I think mutts are just as great as purebreds. But what isn't great is people pumping out mutts, adding to overpopulation problems, and charging silly amounts for them. There are enough dogs looking for homes without everyone and their brother making more.

designer dogs like malti-poos and puggles? i think that's a great idea - combining traits that you like between dogs. but i dont think they should be sold for outrageous amounts of money - certainly not as much as a purebred dog.
