I know of an elder women who received a phone call yesterday requesting bail money to get her grandson out of jail. This was a phony attempt, as the grandson was in college on the other side of the nation, and had no knowledge of these events.

No, but she needs to contact the police because apparently someone unsavory has quite a bit of information about her in order to know she has a grandson her phone number and that she has money. It sounds like someone has decided t o make her a "Mark"

I get calls at work all the time from companies claiming someone who worked here before me authorized a "business directory" listing and they want to verify some info to send us our invoice for $499. I've even had one start harassing me. Luckily, I work for a large business that has permanent legal counsel.

It's a total scam. Now I just tell people I'm not interested, though most people who don't know any better would unwittingly fall into their trap.

I had a slightly different type, same scam tho. When they started to get abusive, I asked for their address and told them this call is being traced cause I was with the FBI. They hung up right away.

No, but in this day and age where people are constantly trying to get innocents to launder money through phoney sweepstakes and others trying to steal identities to grab a person's personal holdings. It doesn't surprise me.
